If you use the standard drivers, in cubase choose Creative ASIO driver from Device / Device Setup...
For kx it's something like kxProject. Don't use the ASIO Multimedia device, it's just a crude emulation.
kxProject is nice. My old audigy literally *died* on me (missing condensator, which made it suddenly forget it's own identity!). the drivers couldn't detect it anymore, but kxProject drivers worked like a charm. Though I really hate the ui. It's uncomprehensible (better skins maybe). But I don't use the card anymore... |

in the cubase manual, it says that you have to import in 48khz samplerate, and in general always work on 48khz. does this include all programs ? like let's say: wavelab, soundforge, acid, nuendo, FL, sonar, logic etc?.
or you can stay stuck in 41khz on other programs ?

piko_bianko, yeah audigy supports only 48khz mode for recording, so basicly it is the only reasonable mode to use. If you record in 44,1khz for example, it will sound like 5khz lowpass filtered. At least the audigy 1.
You can playback 44,1khz with the windows/directx drivers, but the card upsamples it to 48khz in playback so it doesn't matter.
My recommendation is to use 48 khz for the project, then export with 96khz, master the track and then convert to 44khz/16 bit if needed. |

KxASIO is very good for that card... It increases performance significantly. Do not use ASIO4ALL |

sadly the dsp can only b used 4 recording. in my understanding.I dont need to setup the dsp to do a reverb which I can record in2 a track, bcoz I can just bounce a waves effect instead.
Is there anyway to use the dsp for vst or dx acceleration? |

bukboy, no way man. The dsp is for creative's internal effects only. You can run native vst/dx code on nothing but x86 platform.
In my opinion the creative dsp is just one big hoax. You can record and playback signal wet, but there is no use for it: 1. the effects are not that good (many vst's beat those hand down) 2. who would like to have effects on their master channel (especially when there is no compressor available...)?

More like: Get a professional audiocard (audigy has asio as stated).
Okay, audigy isn't that bad after all if it's okay to work in 48khz, you need semi-ok ASIO and just a few io (lacks the inputs but there are 4 channel out). So if you have it and it works for you, no need to change.
I personally hate creative, mainly because of their misleading advertising (you can't record 44,1khz minidisc optically, for example) and bloated drivers (i don't need EAX stuff and colorful skinned mixers). And the way that you need to install the original drivers from the original cd in order to upgrade them, even in fresh windows install, it just sucks. I lost the original driver cd so I needed to get the cd from a frigging warez site to install the drivers!
Soon as you get synths and need input - ditch the card. It's just asking for trouble. |
