Something I've been trying lately that's helping is I avoid, at all costs, sitting back and listening to it as a 'song'. I'll keep building based on the last section/element/etc.
This way I don't hear the 'finished product' until the song is actually finished, keeps me much more objective about it than when I've listened to it 500+ times. |

I think that if we force ourselfs to finnish EVERY track we start help us in the long way to become better at what we do!
Most people give up when they reach a problem they can't solve and go back to what they are more abel to sort out.
Tips for finishing songs:
1- keep working on it;
2 - bring a friend to help (he might have some ideas);
3 - start something else but keep working on the previous track (might be dificcult);
4 - Blow your mind (with your drug of choice) and become a genius, if this doen't bring you ideias, nothing will;
5 - Don't do any of this...
6 - Try some synth, FX, whatever you never used before for ideas;
7 - listen to the tracks who inspire you and discover what the artist is doing that you're not doing;
8 - don't dispear if your kick, bass, hat, lead, whatever doesn't sound 100% ok... just keep working, things will come out naturally...
9 - share your track, you might get some advice on it that will help
10 - do everything above again...

Try speaking loudly to yourself, tell your self what the next target is!
Let it be jokingly, like.. - okej doctor lets move on to this lead now, okej it has too much resonance, lets fix it.. okej this is good, what about those drums, yeah i agree the snare needs to lose some body..
keep the communication going.. and work with it..
Schitzo but very enjoying and you actually make progress!

this is such a terrible advise. i tried it once and ended up yelling profanities and punching myself in the face for being such a fuck-up. |
