i have a dell latitude D505 and an m-audio firewire 410 plugged into the onboard firewire interface and it works fine...
The laptop is not very powerfull so i only use it to play rendered tracks live with some midi to hardware synths.
BUT i've had horrible crackling and hums with some USB interfaces (those who take power from the USB i guess) but only when the AC cord is plugged ! so stay away from these.
A friend told me he solved this problem by not plugging the laptop to the ground. To achieve this he took apart a multiplug and removed the ground connectors. Haven't tried it myself though since i solved the problem by purchasing a firewire interface. |
