Usually I'm a full believer that a good bass tone can be made with just about any vsti or analog synth, a tight volume envelope with short decay and only enough sustain to give it a fat body, and just barely enough release to get rid of any 'pops', etc etc. The point being, seldom do I hear of anyone using attack - it just sounds plain awful, really.
What I'm wondering is - does anyone else find that a TINY bit of attack does an otherwise decent bass tone good? I'm talking a couple milliseconds here. Not even enough to get rid of the "click" as the saw wave starts up (I like the click when it's been lowpassed!). I mean, say, 2-5ms: just enough to change the tone of or even accentuate the click & aggressive part of the attack.
Thoughts? |
