I would like to hear opinions of people that have used both old and new Spectrasonics stuff. Lets assume that you use only Atmoshpere patches with Omni and Trilogy patches with Trillian.
1. How much longer patch loading time has Omni/Trillian compared to Atmo/Trilogy?
2. How much more CPU does Omni/Trillian require than Atmo/Trilogy when same patch used?
3. How much more RAM does Omni/Trillian require than Atmo/Trilogy when same patch used?
I like Omnisphere very much but it loads patches too slow and I was wondering that if I downgrade to Atmosphere, will it make loading times faster. Then another point of view, I don't think Trilogy/Atmosphere works with Live, at least officially so that would require updating to Trillian, but does it increase system requirements if you use same patches?
How about Win7-64 (or even 32) compability. Does Atmo/Trilogy work in these new platforms as supposed?

thats quite an expansive question bud..
as most people will have one version or the other
i usually try to stick to the default patch
and not use the built in effects then tweek it till i get what i want and find that through this way you can kinda shoe horn the
part into your tune
as to browsing the patches..yeah both Trilian and Omnisphere take a shit load of time to load but there is a LITE VERSION switch that speeds things up a lot
but sorry cant give you a comparison between the recent and legacy versions of this range
hope this helps

*CAN* you even downgrade? I didn't think that you could still even buy the original versions.
Patch loading time is enough to make you want to switch?
You'd give up all those soundsources and new features for a couple of measly seconds while you're preset browsing?
That doesn't make any sense to me at all. Not even a little bit.

Well you cannot buy new, I suppose.
And yeah, patch loading time is one of the most important factors for me when I choose instruments. Nothing kills workflow and inspiration better than waiting. I would rather use the tool with second best sound but much faster workflow.

then why not use a soft synth....?????

??? Omnisphere is a soft synth...I am confused..
Anyways. If patch loading time is such a significant issue for you, then you need to either make your own patches in Omni more and preset browse less, or not use Omni, or upgrade your computer.
I don't like loading either, but I find Omni's loading time to be well worth it considering how awesome the soundsources are...and unless you're loading a 1+ gig full range bass guitar patch or something I don't find the wait times significant at all...and I'm not exactly running a supercomputer or anything.
Fast workflow is nice, sure - but I wouldn't ever sacrifice sound quality for a couple of seconds of load time. To each their own.

oh, duh. You mean a soft synth that doesn't have an extensively gynormous sample library - yeah that makes sense
It's over 40 gigs now, and it is glorious
and trilian is like 20 gigs...
so awesome.
