Hello all, been lurking for a while, but I didn't want to post before I read the entire 100 pages of the Mother of all Bass thread

Been making musik for many years, but have never got close to a couple of Atmos' sounds - well, never really tried, have always admired from a distance if you like.

Would anybody be able to help me with a couple of sounds I'd like to reproduce?

so at about 0:25 we have a really rough bass on the off-beat.

then throught the track there are some equally rough atmospheric leads, for instance at around 2:15

is he using a gate on those sounds?

I'm not interested in which plugin/preset to use, just some techniques I could use to create these sounds.

Thanks in advance, and thanks for all of the discussions/tips etc contained in this forum.

Hi,it sounds like there are no gates at all in this track.
And if than only slightly ,more overmasked by the dominating delays on the sounds.
But I think there are no gates here.
What he uses are reverbs and delays and nice panning in panorama ,that should be all.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

Thanks for your reply time traveler. What I'm searching for is what makes the gravely sound on the leads. When I get home I'll isolate a sample of the sound I'm searching for.

I'm guessing there is something like amplitude modulation, distortion, and gating.

hello, here is the type of sound I would like to make.

Any tips would be appreciated. Don't want to make an exact copy, but would like to know how to go about making this kind of sound.

I think that's a kind of sawtooth on a certain low pass filter setting, with reverb and delay.Without gate.An additon of distortion is possible but not necesseary to get there.
A lower octave note does that distortion on itself.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

could also be a waveshaper - if your synth has the ability to waveshape the filter/osc/amp, try that out with different depth/mix and amount            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Thanks,

I'll test these out tonight and post some results.

listening quite a bit to some of my old Flying Rhino CDs, this kind of sound comes up quite often. Slide uses it quite a bit.

here is a first test

http://www.sendspace.com/file/wewj39

saw, overdrive, bandpass filter, delay... playing over the kick/bass/percs of the original track.

apart from the initial sound not being correct, I'm missing an echo it seems.

try again tomorrow
