I will build a new pc soon, but im not quite sure on about the processor;athlon 64 seems great but i would lke some advice or review of someone using it.
I use logic 5.5 as main sequencer, cubase sx and reaktor;also im planning to get a creamware scope by summer so i would like to get the best out of my money.

I have an Athlon64 3000+ (not dual core) on a Gigabyte K8NS board with Corsair memory, and Logic 5.5.1 (and pretty much everything else I've tried on it) works perfectly. In fact I'm extremely happy about this setup.

The onl;y point of having a 64 bit processor is if you uise 64 bit software. However for this you need winxp 64 +
!!!!!64 bit drivers for all the components of your pc!!!!!!!!!

So - whyen you build your pc make sure all the components (dick drive, cd rom, graphic card, etc) have 64 bit drivers available. If you do it it should run a lot faster than a 32 bit system, theoretically windows should be twice as fast.
I have an amd athlon 64 in my laptop, imagine my annoyance when hp told me they did no 64 bit drivers for it )=:

mindfilter, i'd get a mobo with x2 support in it. you can then upgrade to much powerful cpu when the prices have come down.

btw, some people have had problems with scope and some mobo's. i'd do some research which ones are the bad ones. I'm actually interested in getting scope, too...

That's true, but the Microsoft Vista OS with 64 bit instructions is coming soon (Intel Pentium 4 with EM64T, AMD Athlon 64 etc. will use all your power with this one). For while, AMD Athlon 64 works like a 32 bit processor when running the actual Windows XP.
Including the softwares for music will be compiled using the 64 bit intructions in the future (if you want to take advantage of the AMD 64).
The bottom line is: the future is 64 bits (if you want to use Windows OS, of course).

The Scope cards generally have trouble with VIA and NForce4 chipsets, and also don't work really well with X2 yet (they've always been a little dodgy with dual CPU systems anyway.)

I have mine running on NForce3 and it's been really awesome.

So wich chipset would work with Scope? im really planning to build this computer in order to work with Scope Project.
I was thinking on moving to Mac just for logic but no sure really so that`s why i was preferring to use Cubase SX and Scope and stick with PC , i use cubase just for it`s synths and plug ins but Scope one´s are a hundred times better. So i would appreciate more advices.

On the AMD side, the Gigabyte boards with NForce3 chipset seem to be the most popular. Anything with NForce3 should do pretty well, but some people report troubles with X2 processors on EPoX boards (while it seems to work fine with Gigabyte boards.) Steer clear of anything with VIA if you don't want any headaches.

On the Intel side, anything with Intel chipsets seem to work pretty well. The Asus P5AD2-E and P5WD2 with P4 640 Prescott processor look very popular and stable.

You can take a look at these threads on the PlanetZ forums to get more ideas of functional setups (and a bit of performance testing):
