Well i just recently bought ASUS laptop, and after installing m audio firewire audiophile latests drivers it just doesnt work. I can open my sequencer and reach audio output, but when i open my maudio mixer and try to lower volume or to perform any other operation its just blocks and looses comunication , i have installed Windows XP (KB885222) package that is related to the decrease of Performance of 1394 devices , i also disabled all unnecessary stuff on BIOS like onboard soundcard , Lan Driver , modem bla bla bla , and i still cant fix this problem , I sent email to m-audio tech support and they just gave me some frequently asked questions. If someone has this problem and had the chance to fix it , please help me , cause this is trully frustrating!

The Windows XP that you have installed is other the one that came pre-installed with your laptop? If yes, this could be the problem or a problen in general. I have an Acer laptop and when i tried intalling Windows XP Pro, i got nothing but problems. Reinstalling windows from the recovery cd's and everything was perfect.
Also M-Audio cards are known to have problematic drivers many times. I experienced that as well two years ago. On the other hand what i can say for sure is that in a friend's pc that i recently setup he also has the firewire audiophile and it works perfect, but his pc is a desktop.
Another thing that worries me is the message you get in the device manager. Normally you shouldn't get the PCI since this refers to desktops. What i see in my device manager is "Texas Instruments OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller".
In the device manager do you see any exclamation marks anywhere? |

Ok I had this 410 when it first came out.
The reason why i asked is that apparently (at that time at least) the soundcard wasnt compatible with Texas Instrument Firewire cotrollers, apparently. |

I dont see it being a problem as long as you install all the drivers given in the original packaging. |

I have had the exact same problem on my audiophile firewire and I'm afraid there aren't many solutions. Searched everywhere, met people with the same problem and nobody could solve it. It just kept on disconnecting, no way I could use it for a liveset. I bought myself a new soundcard... |

I dont really know , i think is some kind of imcompatbible hardware , its strange no one takes responsability for this , i use this soundcard on my desktop and it works perfectly on 6 pins - 6 pins powered via bus , anyway im planning on exchanging my laptop for Sony Vaio , they have their own firewire technology (iLink) that works really good , at least friends using it with m-audio firewire devices never had any problem!
Anyway thanks for ur experiences!

Same problem here. I have a Toshiba Satellite P100 with a Texas Instruments iLink firewire port, and the M-Audio FireWire Audiophile I just bought hiccups or glitches every 40 seconds or so, with the latest drivers and all that.
Quite frustrating since this is the replacement unit - I sent the first Audiophile back because both I and M-Audio tech support figured it must have been faulty.
I think the Texas Instruments thing may just be it... thanks very much for clearing that up.
Now, to find a compatible sound card in 9 days before my potential first live gig happens... *sigh* |

I also have the 410 FW, and a HP notebook.
Indeed it has some bugs, but I guess Im luck cause I have no big issues.
Now a little q: my laptop has the small firewire port, wich do not power on my sc. If i buy a pcimia firewire, will i have my sc powered by it?

yeah it will probably will but the thing is that you will be quite forcing the laptops powersupply, thats why it comes with the smaller firewire, i think its because it cannot give an stable power pulse to power a soundcard or any firewire device, so i recommend laptop users and also desktop users with no brand PSU ( power supply unit ) that buy a indepentent power supply for all you MIDI / USB devices like a keyboard, sound card, keyboard + sound card, etc.
hope it helps brothers!
cheers!
