Astronivo is the portmanteau word moniker for a young duo from Israel, Guy Astrogano and Niv Konforty.

Their first release on high profile DJ Zombi’s compilation in 2007 at Plusquam earned them the attention of managers from the best Progressive labels, and they eventually got tracks released at 303 Lovers, Flow Records, Blue Tunes & Plusquam again.
Which says plenty about how promising their talent is gauged to be. Now it’s Iboga rec.’s turn to launch a digital EP from this emerging force.
Track list :
1/ Time Again (Original) 126 bpm
2/ Traumatic (Original) 125 bpm
2/ “Time again” starts with an enticing 1 mn long intro with a male voice sample, and soon opens onto a technoish wha-wha bass that you will unmistakebly associate with that of another musical godfather from the same musical epicentre: Elegant Universe. And yet, the bassline undergoes countless nice little reworkings and changes all throughout the track and underlays a soft rhythmic motif that is fully exposed in the break. The track unfolds a more eerie atmosphere in the last sequences and sprinkles brief luminous synth pads to blend the moods. This piece is a nice fusion of styles that elegantly leans more towards the minimal tech.
2/ By contrast, “Traumatic” draws much more on progressive trance/house sources of inspiration as it unreels and intertwines a classic softly reverberated stacatto lead with distant misty chords that capitalize on the momentum. Again, things break cleverly, in a well-orchestrated manner, with a sober crescendo, intelligently keeping the tension alive and launching the track both into the soft atmospheric mood of the coda, inspite of what the title leads us to expect.
Bottom line
This EP presents an original and very convincing attempt at blending styles, showcasing an audiophile, detailed and impeccable production, and I guess the term “minimal trance” fits this soundscape quite well, although you might have expected a sharper edge from music that lays a claim on these two genres. They’re perfect for the late hours of the party, or the introduction piece of a very progressive set. Discerning voices have already expressed their preference for “Traumatic”, but IMHO, “Time again” deserves just as much of your attention, if not more.
