Hi all.
Can anybody please help me with an Astral/MWNN kind of heavy kick sample?
I need it for a project. I can't seem to be able to make one that really sounds like it.
I'm talking about a kick like Kabalah, Soundform,

A phase rotator (such as the free 'Stardust' plugin) can considerably help with this
Try setting up a channel for both the kick and bass with the phase rotator on it tuned to fundamental, and also one on the main out of the mix around the 80hz mark.
More then anything though you need to be getting the right shape kick to start with, and its quite housey actually, so have a look through some house kicks (penton samples spring to mind) - it isn't just a bent sine wave, so the infected method ain't gonna do it, and don't be frightened of getting rid of freqs above circa 5khz - and note how the bass is also often quite housey - this is just as important to how the kick sounds as to how the kick sounds!
Worth saying, if you are trying to synthesize the kick yourself, then note the kick has a much slower pitch bend then currently is fashionable.
However, if you head for a sound that is much more akin to todays progressive house, then I think you will find you end up with a more polished sound, which can be very akin to Astral or MWNN, and is totally in keeping with how that sound feels. And TBH honest, I think my advice will push you in that direction, so you should be aware of that - I'm giving hints on how to get what I view as a sympathetic sound, rather then an absolute clone.  .

I'm quite sure those kicks are from SH101. Lots of AP kicks are from the SH101.
I think the Virus has a preset called x0x kick or something that sounds a bit like this or could be eq/comped to sound like this. |
