I'm not sure if anyone else has this problem but I'm getting very annoying ASIO spikes when working on Cubase projects. The system isnt straining at all but sudden spikes take the meter to 100%. It doesnt matter what buffer size I set. I suspect that its Trilogy causing the problem as it seemed to start around the time I installed it (but I also upgraded Cubase at the same time!) So far I've not had an answer from Spectrasonics. Anyone having similar problems? Any ideas?
My system:
Mac OSX 10.4.11
Cubase 4.1.3
Battery, Massive, Absynth
Trilogy
Albino
Vanguard
Virus TI

Are you using airport on your Mac. There is a performance bug on the latest update.Try turnig it off if it is on and this should be what is creating the spikes. Happened to me 2 in Logic Pro and would think that it is not DAW/ platform specific. i couldnt figure it out but then i went here and found the solution.

If you need to use the internet during production then there is on that forum a link to how you can roll back the update to the previous version.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick replies. Its an intel mac. there isnt a UB version of trilogy (as far as I know) they have a 'wrapper' as a solution. Anyway, it actually seems to work fine without the wrapper?! As far as the spike issue goes, I'm now pretty sure its not related to Trilogy as I've unloaded Trilogy as an instrument and I'm just working with the audio files.....but I'm still getting spikes.
I'll try the suggestions you've made tonight and let you know how it goes. Thanks again for the response - much appreciated

Ha! I've finally cracked it! It wasnt bluetooth or airport (I had them both turned off and still had the spikes). So, I downloaded an activity monitor from the apple website to see what was going on. The culprit was vstbridge - a powerpc app. Once this is disabled everything works fine - no spikes. The plugins that rely on vstbridge now dont work but its a small price to pay. Also, trilogy is also power pc - and also causes the spikes. The only solution for me is to live with spikes while working with trilogy midi files and then convert the files to audio for spike free work. Hopefully, this will be sorted out in the next cubase update (!) but I can live with this way of working until then. Happy Days. |
