Hi guys... I promised to upload the full tracks once it was finished, and now it is... As always, feedback would be appreciated. Try to disregard the MP3 quality, and tell me what you think of the rather "different" ending

Thanks in advance!

Hello Mr. Hyde

The sounds are very good and the arragment is perfect. I even liked the weired bass line.
The weak link is the mix, I think it sould be more creative.
keep the good work.           "a new art came into my mind which only you can create, the Art of Noises, the logical consequence of your marvelous innovations." Russolo, 1913

Okay, good - constructive critiscism, nice

Now one question though... As awlays How is one creative in the mix? In my book, mixing is levels, EQ, and compression.

Thanks,

Hmm, I download at full capacity, which is about 2 mBit - anywho, it's a university server, and they sometimes mess with it - so it'll be back up

I actually meant the mix.

That's an old book pal.
Mixing is not just levels and panning, mixing is taking all the sounds and making them work together to create a something that worth more then it's individual pieces. Levels and panning are essential part of the mix, but for me it's just the start. Especially with electronic music which is sequencer based, reapting the same sequence without variation is boring, creative mixing can change that.
Here are a few things I would try:
- put step beat filter on start seq.
- at about 4:30 there something like a dog bark, try different fx (delay, echo) amount on each one.
- at 5:40 there is short drum loop, I would try to fade it in and out with higher volume.
- at 7:05 there something like a flute, I'm not sure if that's the right choice, but I'll try to beat chop it.
- overall hi-end is a bit dull, needs more work.
Don't get me wrong, I think your mixing is good in compare to other tracks on the list, but we all have our weaknesses.

Now we're getting somewhere - it's just that I see filtering, delay, and beat-chopping as part of producing, not mixing - just words...

Yeah... The "flute" it's actually just a plain sawtooth-wave. I have mixed (!) feelings about it too. I'm thinking of programming an entirely ew sound for it, and scrap the sawtooth.

Different delays/reverbs on the dog (which is actually a protective layer of plastic for my floor) is a good idea. It has worked before, but I guess I'm getting lazy

Which is the "start sequence" - and what is a step beat filter...? I'm almost embarresed to ask

Thanks for the ideas - and yes: The high-end (hats and stuff) is definetly one of my weaker spots...

Sure, it can and should be part of sound production, but when I look at the overall picture things start to get different meaning. The fx in mix time are for getting the sounds to better interact between them.
If you already thought about that during the production then I release you from this task

I'm talking about 0:20-0:40. Check the StepFilter in Cubase. For example would step filter from hi to low on the fourth beat with 1/16 steps.           "a new art came into my mind which only you can create, the Art of Noises, the logical consequence of your marvelous innovations." Russolo, 1913

Well, using Logic, I don't know Cubase's step filter... But I'm guessing PCF (pattern controlled filter)?

Thanks again, and I like the doctor Smiley
