Have any psy producers ever considered the idea of getting funding for their work from public arts funds/private arts funding groups?

i don't think so... It's not 'culural' enough for that... And anyway, they only fund u in our country if u already proven urself tenfold.... And only for types of art that aren't popular enough with the public to pay itself. Though psytrance is not popular enough to really earn money with it, it is a part of pop culture, so it wont get government funding... maybe in 50 years |

How much of the psytrance that is produced is innovative enough to call itself art ? I know that some producers in the netherlands get funding, but it's not much and only lasts for four years. After that you either made it or you'll have to find another job. On the brighter side, the producers that got such a funding that i know of are doing pretty well (at least a lot better than me)

Hey thanks for the replys! Its good to know that it's possible in at least one country of the world.
Another idea: Could labels get non-profit status, as private arts endowments, and thus not have to pay taxes?

in our country that's possible... But i would do it all 'in black' as we say over here (you don't notify the IRS about the income u get out of it, tax evasion as u would call it). If u make money as a label (and that's a big if) it will be so little money that they won't even notice that u didn't notify the IRS about it... If u get as big as TIP world u can start thinking about paying taxes... |

Yeah Fregle good point... probably not many people making enough off trance to bother with getting nonprofit status.
In NYC I have heard that their are housing subsidies specifically for artists (as rent in NY is EXTREME for those who didnt know). I dont know how one qualifies or anything I just know that they exist. Do similar things exist in other countries and would they be available for psytrance producers?

A small clarification: In the Netherlands you can get a monthly payment if you are an artist of any kind. This isn't quite the same thing as funding for a psy-trance project. Yes some psytrancers get this money but it really isn't much. Just some extra money to get by every month.
As a label or an organisation that organises parties, it is much more interesting to have a non-profit status. That means, in the Netherlands at least, you can avoid paying VTA. That is about 19% savings.
