I am planning a trip to india in either december or next october.......is there much of a demand for chillout DJs in manali and goa or do the parties just have trance?           www.BarakaRecords.com/brij.htm

hey brij.
India is devoid of chillout and neither is there a market for it... especially within the psychadelic genre. Goa especially is into 145bpm+ full-on. if you do want to spin you would have a better chance getting a gig at one of the swanky lounge bars in delhi or bombay. but thats not too much fun... after all, who wants to play for gucci wearing socialites!

ma faiza is the only established Indian chillout DJ that i know of, but she sticks to lounges in pune and indore. nothing too big.

i will be going back home in december to organise a party in calcutta. ive really taken a liking to the concept of a 2nd chillout stage (one of the good things ive picked up in the US) ... hoping to implement it this time around. so if ure around the east sometime during christmas do get in touch. maybe we can fix something up.

Well, I've played 2 chilled sets in India when I was there last summer.
One in Delhi in a very nice and hype bar-restaurant called Shalom, which was packed, but not necessarily because of me Might be the food.

One in Mumbai in the Rain lounge bar, which was a little empty, but I hope that was also not because of me, but because it was deewali and everybody was busy playing cards

I found many people with interest in the more chilled areas of electronic music, and I believe that with the development of electronic music culture in India, which is happening all the time, the chill rooms will come too. No reason why some of the clubs I've been to around Delhi (which can rival some of the best in the world) shouldn't have chill rooms.

There is also a developing group of talented artists that hover around the more chilled areas of our music now in India- there are the PunditZ of course (who gave a big push to it all) and there's Jayant, and some more you'll hear about soon, I believe.

double that
but unfortunately, not too many ppl into ambient and chillout down here...its all 'full on full on' all the time! so gettin an artist dosent quite seem like a profitable venture...
but im sure....given some time....it will happen. artists like entheogenic, CBL, etc are slowly gettin poppular among our everyday psyheads! till then...!           Nothing is said that has not been said before.

its true, the most people prefer full on over there, specially in goa.but last seasion the partys wor reare, nearly not exsisting.so the people hanged around, mostly in bars.
in vagator,in a bar called zions ali and jon from gb played once a week, and i got the chance as well,by the way thx 2 jon.
also another place called hansons harmonie did once a week killer accustic chill sessions.
in the end it was succsesfull for all the chill people and even the fullon freaks really enjoyed.
the next season will have more bars like this, for shure!i got booked all ready in 3 different bars in goa,to play once a week for the whole season!i didnt saw the other guys till now...but for shure they have same situation...so hope to c u all in goa for killa chill sessions and lots of fun!!!!all the best

hey baba
i will ask the guys i know,to get contact for you maybe.
otherwise,if you are there is good to have your music anyway.you can play shure...theres not too much chill djs there,
even the nine bar in vagator played chillmusic, but not to much response.
most serious fan of this musicstyle was definitly the zion ppl(cuple from israel).they wanna get permission for big daypartys and big soundsystem!lets hope!
all the best
