If you don't want to use quick time you can use the extension foxy tunes as an alternative (works with firefox and also with Microsoft IE).
It automatically opens a small player if it detects music on a website.

I'm sorry. I didn't know that quicktime is necessary if you use foxytunes 
But foxytunes can be very useful nevertheless, especially the player.
