Please listen to this track, about 0:17 - 0:20 you will hear that not all the kicks sound the same, there is some sort of inconsistent noise accompanying them... does anyone know what this could be due to?
also - please let me know what you guys think of this track! I have been producing for less than a year and just have headphones, so dont be mean, but please be critical!--

well you will find it strange but although im listening on the crapiest laptop speakers... the bass is inaudible.
either is to low on volume or to low on bass your tracks has a rolling energy but if the bass isnt heard it looses that.

oh, so just a soundcloud problem? alright.
orgy and chicke - what do you think about the volume of the bass, question prompted by fat data's comment. and about the track overall? what do you think I should be considering focusing on to improve?

Is the kick made with a synth or is it a sample? Synth kicks should be rendered into samples and then used in tracks, keeping it live in the project can throw it off once in a while. For only producing a year, your sounds sound really good, that's some nice psy feeling going on there. You should maybe boost your bass a bit tho, it's very silent. I'd add some lower freqs to it and compress it with the kick so it'll roll nice and tight together.

Orange - Thanks for the advice about the 128kbs mp3, was not aware of that.
Thanks to all of you for your input. I am currently highpassing the bass at just below the fundamental, I will try lowering that to maybe 20Hz or something. Also I am using New York compression of the bass and kick (subtractive addition of high and low freqs), I will increase that on the bass. As far as having more attack so it stands out, maybe increase the attack time slightly on the compressor will do that.
I will also try adding some overdrive to the kick. Is this what you mean by 'dry'?
I am currently compressing them (kick and bass) together, but maybe not very effectively; it is a very light compression, with slow attack and release. I will experiment with those settings and boost the volume of the K+B group track.
Any other suggestions? You guys are really helping me and I appreciate it!
