Hi everybody.
Does NE1 know about arranging resources for psytrance?
It seems like arranging, an already nebulous art to find books on in popular music, is learnt by trial & error in trance. Does NE1 know NE decent shortcuts?

i think arrangement is learnt by listening to other tracks and, if you can, see how ppl react on a certain arrangement, for example if you play as a dj on gigs. analyze your favourite tracks, that's all about this magic |

i read a nice thought from "der dritte raum" recently: he said "if you can dance then you can compose, too".
but there's also an article about psytrance out there in the net, the link was posted here before.

you can't learn creativity by reading something, only by listening to psy. there's no better way than listening. i can't give you tips here, altough many say arranging is hard, for me it's the easiest phase in the production of the track... oh i can give you a tip... try dancing to your track. this works for me
another way is listening to a track from your favorite artists, analyze it and write the different parts somewhere (like: 16 bar of intro, 8 bar kick and bass, ..., 8 bar break, 8 bar build up, 24 bar bombing). this way you can have a better view of a track.
EDIT: another tip is use automation a lot. |

do you mean you played your music at a party (trial) and watched the reactions of the people (error/ success) ?

plop a favorite tune in your sequencer (cubase, logic, etc) and match the tempo to your project.
Create a midi channel and start drawing midi events in to match the major changes. You'll notice the 8/16/32/64 changes.
Great way to visually see how a track is laid out.
You can also get creative and start making midi tracks for each element, painting in a blank midi event.
In the end you should have a recreation of what a song looks like in a sequencer.
Doing this has taught me a lot about arranement. |

Arrangement is tottaly up to the producer. How can somebody teach you what to think? That's how i see it.
Thanx for that article Martyn. That's really good. |
