Way better to use the piano roll. it's kinda difficult to get your envelope right with an arp for bass. It's much easier to hand shorten your individual notes, plus you can do interesting tricks with the note placement than an arp won't do so well...           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

If u want arp the bass i think will not sound very good because in a bassline there blank spaces between 1/16notes, and these blanks spaces will gona make the arp sounds bad...or try together notes in bassline without spaces...but like other friends said piano roll is the best way for sure...

For electro bass it can work real nice..
at least it can be fun to jam to, put it on hold and jam along

It seems to me that an arp bass looses you the opportunity to mess around with note length and importantly velocity levels. Also you are retsricted to the Arp notes, much better by hand in the key editor i rekon, more freedom to experiment.

I never use arpeggiators for anything. I create my own arpeggios. Please do the same. But yes a nice arped bass can be good for some types of songs. Like koan...he uses a really nice rubberband bass that he moves around quite a bit, not quite arped but closest thing i can think of.           http://www.youtube.com/user/trawhi (tutorials)
