Hi, I never did get to collect Vinyl’s, DAT's or even Cassettes. I was one of them who was leaped into the world of Compact Discs and it's jewel glimpse of crystal visions (:P).

For me personally I don't think I will ever stop playing CD's. I got nearly 500 CD's in my collection now (Would have had a lot more if I hadn't lost so many over the years ..) and I have no interest in buying all of them over again in another format and I am for sure to keep buying CD's as long as they are printed for our purchasing and listening pleasures.

I do however wish for some improvement as Compact Discs has been on the marked for a long time:

* There is a lot of hobby DJ’s, future DJ’s and professional DJ’s out there who Buy CD’s. I think these people are a huge part of the overall revenue for Record Labels and distributors. Why don’t they all include a DJ-Slip in their releases!?

* The jewel-case is most often maid by crappy material that easily cracks and tends to get fractured too often. It’s plastic shit that breaks just by flexing it vaguely and/or dropping it on the floor. Hate that shit! Why not make the casing out of better flexible material that not necessarily pollutes more and doesn’t cost anymore then the jewel ones to manufacture? Like http://www.rivierapublishing.co.uk/acatalog/Unbreakable_CD_Jewel_Case_5m_L.gif

* It’s always nice with some extended artwork and written words to make the feel of the package become more complete.

* The price has not dropped very much since the 90’s. Maybe time they drop the prices some more? For me living in Norway I can’t complain about the prices too much. I’m more thinking about my brothers and sisters in other countries where the valuate is much lower..

* CD is one format; within the same format shape you have other mediums with more space. The Compact Stick was a nice idea because it allowed for more tracks and also digital artwork. Even though I’m not going to buy any of those I still like the advantages they bring.

* Print your music on GOOD quality CD’s so that they last a long time. I am disappointed by how many labels (or who does the job and saves the money and forces us to buy new ones soon) choose to print their music on thin and cheap CD’s.

* For the collectors out there, it would be a nice idea to print on the copy which number this is out of how many that has been printed. Thinking since most PsyTrance/Chill CD’s don’t get more then some hundred copies printed anyway ..

Hi.
I'm a label manager.
So you want us to drop the price AND make it better quality?

Forget it.
Won't work.

Ok, so I'm not sitting on the numbers and I can't tell you to drop the prices as your bizznizz has do go around... Fair enough. But I guess there is a solution to this to leave all parts smiling. I got one CD from Cronomi, and that Disc seems to be in good quality, so far .. But what about a DJ-slip, how much would that cost you, how much would you loose by including one of those in each example and how many smiles would you bring on to prospering DJ's and DJ's alike? When and if (not that many so far ..) I get booked for a DJ gig, I will rip and burn my original CD's on to a CDr because I don't want my or others clumsiness to scratch the CD and I fear the possibility to loose a copy if I bring originals. .. It would be very nice with a DJ-slip (:

Know the saying 'there are no problems only solutions'? Got any other wise words to share with us?

Only one cd? Shame on you!
Anyway, I haven't really thought about it.
I'll check the issue on our next release.

I'm a blank CD buyer. I don't care about the actual CD. I do have loads of DAT tapes and vinyl, but CDs I don't care and feel anything, as a medium.
Its on its way out anyway.

I buy less and less CDs. Rather buying the files directly than supporting the hard working mail guys.
If it has a really cool cover or it's a Blu Ray/DVD than I will buy otherwise no. Get with the program.

+1 for the Jewel Pack, i don't like them at all...
i know labels like them because they are very cheaper to make, but almost 80% from the cds i receive are with a damaged box,or they get damaged later...

i don't think the price should be reduced, 2-3 eu doesn't make any diffrence to buyers, and it makes a lot of diffrence to labels, have you seen that in some more popular genres the price of the cds is 30+ euros...

nice tip for the DJ Slip i will have it in mind on the next release of my label.

Just as others have said, I buy the files if they're available. CDs are only for burning to, if I want to spin the music or take to a party. (I hope this trend also goes away, cos I feel like I really treat them like shit knowing they're so disposable.)

As for the artwork, Ektoplazm includes the artwork in their packages, which is what all net labels should do, imo.

I made this option on my shop (currently only for my label CD's)

When somebody buy the CD, he can download the tracks immidietely in WAV, and he receives the CD later.

So this way they get the both stuff, i think all labels should do this option, getting a server for making digital downloads is not so expensive           VA - Spiritual Science out now!

On the contrary , think.. how many trees could be saved if there arent any cd's printed?

We are all nature lovers right... especially in this scene? think about the possibility! It saves a great deal of paper leading to the cutting of less trees.. makes sense?

Make no mistake .. im a cd lover too. but now and when technology improves, we gotta adapt. It has been the case for years.

On the other side, what i really think is an ideal situation in the current sad state of affairs of CD's... is to make artist album as CD's only because it is more of personal thing and something to hold to or give to. A compilation is usually just a bunch of tracks, so it makes more sense putting it out digitally than waste it on a CD.

All other genres have stuck to digital in the past few years. I still wonder why everybody in this scene is still so stuck up when it comes to releasing music digitally. It is as if it was something degrading to them! Baffling!           www.braindrop.in

I hate getting cds that when I press 'track info' on my car cd player or cd decks and nothing comes up. Along with no inlet with tracks names. Sadly this seems to be like half of my orders nowadays.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound
