I was looking at the "whats your age" topic on isratrance section and seems everyone is 25+.
We are a bunch of jaded ravers XD.
I think maybe this doesnt encourage newcommers to participate, and lets face it must people in this escene is much more younger.
Maybe we are totally out of touch.
"The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."
im 28 in december and going every other weekend to a party and every year to atleast 2 festivals... i can only see my age as an advantage and experience i mingle around people that are younger than i am and have absolutely no problem with it... on the contrary
If it's too loud, you're too old.
Judging by an Ultravox tune I play right now, I am definitely getting old.
Everyone in the world is doing something without me
We are sharing the same passion for this kind of music, and I think it's normal that from time to time "am too old for this" thought cross your mind. Anyway if the beat still does it for you, than you're not too old, maybe just an oldschool
The psy scene has always been an older crowd - at least judging from the parties I've been going to on the east and west coasts of the US. I started at 18, but besides the young children I see at family style festivals it's usually mid 20s and up if not early to late 30s. Of course there are all ages but that's what I predominantly see.
I absolutely despise that attitude of if its too loud you're too old. Even when I was 18 and a new tripper I knew it was fucking dumb to stand next to a big rig for extended periods of time without rest or protection, or to scowl when someone hits the real high frequencies and my ears ring a bit. Hurting people is not fun - we all want to be listening to good music for as long as we can and as best as we possibly can, yes?
My impression was always that GoaTrance was listened to by an older audience compare to other trance genres (when I was 18-20, now I'm 30). So according to my observation, it's all on track _
Yep, 33 and still feeling the good vibes, just a lot more selective about what I listen and like these days.
But I love listening to the old stuff and get really excited about new music that, although sounds a lot more "new", it retains the old vibe, of music, coming from and for, a different universe than our own.
if psytrance was a person it got stuck on acid in 2003 and is still talking about the same topics, gms, astrix & IM going commercial and the good old times of astral projection and hallucinogen... if i was 16 and just discovered electronic music i would rather listen to techno where there still is constant evolution within the genre...

it's very easy: 1st psychedelic in 1980, 1st party in 2004, 1st festival in 2005 ... respectively makes 30, 6 and 5 ... average is 13 ... hmmmm old u say? while i can dance enichkin's DNA the answer must be: no!!!

I kinda agree with this one, there is a big part of the scene still on the same stupid subjects that have nothing to do with the scene, although I kinda disagree as well, because them people are finally, old news. the aformentioned acts have moved on to something else, and, slowly, but steadily, the scene is too....that is what it feels like outside of stupid threads on forums like this one...

There is evolution in the trance scene as well, not as much as in the techno scene, and not as positive, but there is evolution.
In any case the fact that techno is more "progressive" (in the sense that it actually progresses as a scene, instead of being stagnant, or moving backwards even), does not make the music it self any "better" than psychedelic trance.
Yes, its "cool" to say you're into techno music nowdays...and there's a lot of hot chicks in to it...etc, but if I was 16 and stumbled upon an open air party in the woods, with someone like Serge, Tristan or Dickster playing, I would dive in head first, into the trance vibe...I would just also happen to enjoy a good techno tune, a lot.
Maybe age is only an issue if you think psy/goa is essentially just dance music that can only be appreciated via parties, festivals, etc. However, if you’re willing to take a broader perspective on the music (and willing to consider more complex and interesting rhythms) then age shouldn’t really be as issue.
