Well, when i ask about "Pure Artists" (in trance) means whether any1 is there who only makes music and not Djs. Has he become big?
Before anybody wants to point out that an artists ultimate goal is to perform in front of a crowd (in any form of music), let me point out a band called "Alice in Chains" who were the fathers of Grunge Rock & inspired so many others like GodSmack etc. During their entire career (about 8 yrs & 5 albums), they performed only once - an unplugged show!!! and they are considered GODs (the lead singer is now no more)
Next, if there is any "Pure Artists", how can he/she promote music without being a dJ?
Cheers.............................would like to know coz i'm interested only in making /and not playing music!

Frank Zappa: "You have a wooden leg. Does that make you a table?" |

Well,
Its not being a "Pure Artist" or not... The thing that happens a lot in this scene, is that out of the 2 members of a team, then one is a dj... (Most of the times)
So the one is responsible for the technical parts of the group, and the other the 'promotional' lets say... they might sit together and write and produce tracks, but usualy the one is doing the heavy job...
There are cases that, its just a person doing all the job but t is hard...
Its not bad to produce and then play live to promote your stuff, or just get extra money for the increase of your studio... Or maybe just for fun!! ppl enjoy playing in front of crowds... Tell me one that doesnt...
Anyway, My point is that, if u want your work to be listen and make ppl know more about you, is not bad to performe once in a while...

Audialize - Never ever Djs
Suria - Has done some DJing, but much before Suria project (like 5-6yrs ago), never djs now
And many many others! The fact that you produce music doens't have to mean you have any interest at all in DJing, or doesn't imply you must be a dj...

hey sid,
ok, he may have done many many shows, but he did NOT do many shows also because of drug problems (if im not wrong)....1 might be an exaggaration, but 'many many" is also way out of mark (for a popular band like AIC)...ill just confirm with my pal (who is a fan of ONLY AIC) and let u know exactly how many shows they did |

AIC toured heavily from '90-'93 (ever hear of Lolapalooza?) and did not quit touring after '93 nor was 1990 their first gig. Check out...

I won't get into this anymore but I do want to say that one of the reasons you know about an artist is because they are out in front of people. |

As was pointed out earlier Alice In Chains toured extensively up through the Dirt album. They also did not stop because they wanted to stop, but because of their singer's various problems. The unplugged show was only a big deal because it was after they had stopped touring regularly. I saw Alice In Chains on two different long tours; the Clash of the Titans tour in 91 and the Lolapolooza tour during which they were one of the headlining acts together with Rage Against the Machine.
Also future proof that they did not do "only" one show was the live home video they released for the Facelift tour. Alice in Chain was very much a touring band and they played live countless times up until Staley's troubles made it too difficult for them to succesfully tour, and their popularity tanked so after. |
