I produce music on mac computers for years,
and for me personally, a slower mac will be always
better than faster pc for music production, because
of personal reasons that have to do with my creativity.
Now, about your software compatibility,
traktor - yes
fl4 - no
cubase - yes
soundforge - no
80% of your plugins - yes
Instead of fl4 there's reason3,
Soundforge can be replaced with
Peak or DSP-Quattro, most of your
plugins should work, but you need to
get mac versions of everything, cuz
you can't open .dll or .exe files on mac.
Last thing - don't do it.
Don't waste your time and money on this...
Macs are better than peecees - but only for mac users.

I run a couple mac systems in my studio. Overall Im very happy with them. I would definetly suggest investing into a Mac. In my experience they have been extremely stable and very easy to use.
Latley I have been considering to add PC into the studio. I have been wanting to be able to use plugs such as " Discovery, Disco DSP " There are tons of plugz that are available on PC which aren't on the mac. My suggestion is to get both if you can afford it. Invest into the Mac and get a really cheap PC.. I think you can grab a really inexpensive PC for around 300 or 400 bux.
Hope this helps..

don't forget Logic Pro, which a lot of people think it's a better choise on the Mac.
also don't get an ibook, get a powerbook, it worths the extra cash.
I think that the biggest advantage for getting a Mac is its tiger OS, it makes the XP look like windows 3.1

jrob , 90% of the plugs for pc there exist for mac as well , maybe on internet u dont find , but on stores u see them all
and why getting a disco dsp when we can have nord lead hardware
pc after a while dies , i love seeing my dual 2ghz powermac running lots and lots of stuff , and keep running without stress
also have the last powerbook from apple , but its nothing compared to g5 , making a track on the laptop with a motu traveler , hangs a lots , its not so good but helps a lot heehhe
im not commplaning , im just happy with both _:)

I am also considering getting a mac laptop as I would like to stay with Logic. Do u think I should wait for a g5 laptop or a dual core laptop if they ever come out .or buy an expensive ailenware laptop ?or is there a point in getting a g4 powerbook now ? I’m scared apple will come out with something more powerful then the g4 in the near future and then I will regret buying this laptop. |

hum g4 will stay on market selling the new model more one year at least... then want $$$ to next step is only after making good money ehhehe .
new apple series will be with intel cpu processors , so it will be something not to grab from the beggining for what i understand about it .
so laptop g4 1.67 is a nice choice , i make there music as well , but i can't make them like on g5 dual 2ghz ,, its very very diferent

Apple announced new ibooks yesterday. Depends on your budget but if you have the money for 15/17" i would go the powerbook route. On these you have also the firewire 800 which is fine when you have more firewire peripherals.
For soundcard i would suggest a firewire solution on mac, take a look on the motu interfaces (i have the 828 mkII). They are very good and these people are mac focused, so you get very good drivers fast. RME is good hardware but in the past they had not so good apple drivers, they focuse more on pc (had two rme multifaces and sold them).
If you need external harddrives go the firewire way, usb on mac is little bit slower. On my pb17 i have two 200gb lacie fw800 drives connected in raid 0 mode (stripe set), in this configuration its really fast.
1GB ram you should have, more is better.
And take a look on Logic pro, for mac its a killer app. Direct support by apple, so they try hard to position it as a showpiece for their systems... |

nightshift if u think like this u'll never buy a laptop eheheheheh
evolution is part of the process mate that is the funny thing
buy it , g4 1.67 is a relly good machine , but in the future if u want aa good computer to make real music then u buy the genertation of TERAhz CPU on the T family of new computer from maac eheheheh
so until there i think it worth hard buying it , and its not so expensive, i spent 1900 on mine ,
1.67ghz
1gb ram
80gb hdd
1 firewire400 and 1 fw800
lan
tvout with GOOD resolution
screen output ,send 1280+760
good superdrive
(features - light sensor that automaticaally give brightness to your screen , and to your keyboard , giving the iluminaation u need in all kind of wether and condtiions , in case of the laptop feel thats is fallingdown , the computer aautomatically disconect the HDD, protecting im against the choke , so it protect as well your DATA
eetc
it just worth
its not a regular laptop u find there like fujitsus or asus or even sony ones.
