The axis of loosers rather.
I can see why they are the perfect match for Apple.
Intel can't keep up with AMD and is charging more for a slower CPU.
Apple like to be able to be able to keep selling some kind of grossly overpriced computer, but have a hard time keeping the face up when their dual 2.5 Ghz processor G5's fall far behind a single CPU AMD +2500.
So Apple can keep overcharging for below par performance and Intel have some people to sell their product too...mac owners.
They are good customers...I used to sell audio equipment and all the mac related products we sold was about double the profit on...because according to the boss "mac owners don't mind to pay a bit extra".
Question is....will it be regular Intel chips or some custom ones??
If they use regular Pentium processors OSX will be possible to run on standard PC's I guess.
Although I hate the OS it could be nice for running Logic.

i think i dont agree with u spindrift , comparing a AMD+2500 between dual 2,5 motorla chips from mac
i have a dual 2.0 , and beat any computer ive been working until today , the computeri have before was a XPTO computer , nice mobo , amd 2600+ 1gb ram sata 10000rpm it was stable , but with dual 2.0 man ,, no comparison , at least thats my opinion
to bad mac is so expensive , because for sure they are excelent computers

they are all from the same cigar camp with a great future scenario, they split just to trick us. they ignore us by knowing that we feed them right. so far they hold the trigger of what we call "tech" but not necessary the future.

The problem with pc's is not their processors. It's Windows. I do not even want to think about some of the nightmares I've been through with Windows. OS X is a much more stable system for making music, or just about anything else you can come up with. But getting back on topic, I don't think there is anything wrong with the processors Apple has been using. I don't know why they are "dissatisfied" with them all of a sudden. I'm cerainly not, and I'm using a single G4 processor (running smooooooth). But don't take if from me. Actually, don't buy Apple products. I'd prefer to keep all the internet security threats on the Windows side. |

In all fairness I should say that I haven't used a mac since OS9.
I used to work configuring systems for studios and back then it was a lot of work squeezing any performance out of them by finding the perfect set of enabled extensions which was what made me grow a disliking for mac.
So I'm only judging by the performance tests done with audio software and there they are indeed far behind with their CPU's now.
Both single CPU Intel and AMD setups have no problem to out perform a dual 2.5 Ghx macs.
And I'm not sure I would like to spend three times more for a slower but more stable system, since my PC is perfectly stable and don't give me any trouble.
And I would like to use Logic still....but macs move of leaving PC Logic users out did not gain any sympathy with me, so I would find it hard to switch over on sentimental grounds.

the problem with macs is price/performace relation and lack of technical support
for the price of a amd xp 2600 you don't get half the same power from apple, and if anything goes wrong with your machine it isn't as easy as going next door and buying the defective parts replacement

I do worry that this might be a bad turn for mac,,, personaly i love my mac... i have a g4 with logic and its runs fine ... my i book can deal with more audio and plugins and at work i have seen petim 4's fall for nothing... puting some video to audio on some of these machines was impossible...
I dont what macs to become anything but what they have been... the do the job and thats it... i cant be botherd with spending 2 hours out of 3 fixing problems...
But thats my opinion. |

the end of mac snobness and it's snobs?
Good news for intel, since no one else was supporting they're efforts... they could go bankrupcy in 2/3 years... all entreprise level computer makers are switching to AMD now...
Still.. it will be a no-no for me until they adopt AMD...
joao roll a joint or STFU :) |
