yeah, but touch pad with a pen is so un-sexy
anyway, i hope this inspires more controller makers to go with multiple-touch touch screen technology, and bring down price levels as such
i'm really tired of all these groovebox type controllers and their various gimmicks.. i want to make the interface how i want it, and not pay a crapload for it

Where did you get that idea from?
Looking at how they tied in their FairPlay DRM with iTunes, making it non-interoperable and not licensing it, it seems hard to claim that DRM was an afterthought added after pressure from RIAA.
And while they easily could have provided media from independents DRM-free they didn't.
And for example Amazon started with DRM-free music a year before iTunes did.
DRM is also a central part of their business model with OSX and Mac computers.
If you look at Apple's actions DRM is a very very central part of their business model.
They are the only OS manufacturer with DRM for the OS itself, they have used DRM to tie their musicplayers to their shop and they sold the most DRM protected media.
If you prefer to look at Jobs speeches rather than his actions you will get another picture though.

If it wasn't for Apple we would probably have more such devices already, but their lawyers have aggressively tried to enforce their multi-touch patent, making it a risky market to enter.

there was this old white paper or open letter from Steve Jobs several years ago (probably around Tiger) where he was saying something to that affect, how they were opposed to DRM. this was still when itunes store was pretty new, and they didnt have video or apps or anything yet, just music
could have just been hyperbole though.
i confess i really dont keep up on the DRM thing..

gates and jobs.. everything wrong with the world!
i.e. destroy the gates for a borderless society, and down with jobs, as the workers shall be the owners (and not need jobs anymore) hee-hee
