the iphone/pod with TouchOSC and OSCulator has already demonstrated itself to be not just a neet little app, but heavily used in my own arsenal

i could see the iPad ($499) not only putting Jazzmutant out of business, but also making a serious challenge to most of the new controller surfaces on the market - the NI Maschine, Akai and Novations matrix controllers for live, etc

what do you think?           Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!

I agree with you... it holds serious potential, but it will be funny to see live acts go from looking like they are checking their e-mail to looking like they are doing inventory onstage

compared to other screen- touch controllers for pro audio the ipad is cheap as hell.
seriously nice for us and those apps already exist for the iphone they will so come for the ipad. Jazzmutant etc. is either going out of business or will have to drop their prices seriously or upgrade functionality seriously...           Most of my music for you to download at:

Obviously i have to agree that is a nice device and i am so curious about his impact on the market.

but it can be really more useful than the cheaper launchpad? is it a mature technology? how about precision (i don't know seriously)? and why i have to worry about battery when i am already playing a computer with a power supply?

Any possibilities of emulating a lemur with it?           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

it looks neat, but what software is there around to make it usable as a controller for audio applications? I am hoping emagic come up with something cool soon

Wonder if touchOSC will work on this because that would basically make it a lemur

Man I would buy this in a heartbeat if it will.

And Disco Hooligans to get it to send midi this is what you must do. hopefully there will be a much easier method coming soon.

MIDI

As most audio/visual software does not support OSC directly (yet), in order to use TouchOSC with these applications the incoming OSC messages need to be translated into MIDI messages. If you are on Mac OS X please check the OSCulator files on this page. This is by far the easiest way to convert OSC messages from TouchOSC to MIDI on the Mac OS X platform.

To translate OSC messages from TouchOSC to MIDI messages on Windows follow these steps:

1. Download and install Pure Data Extended
2. Download and install MIDIYoke
3. Download and open one of the Pure Data MIDI patches following this section (for example: simple-midi.pd)
4. Make sure you are receiving output from TouchOSC in Pure Data. Refer to the TouchOSC manual on this page for more information
5. In Pure Data open the menu Media -> MIDI Settings…
6. For output device 1 select Out To MIDI Yoke: 1 and press OK
7. Start the application you want to receive the MIDI messages with, go to MIDI settings/preferences and select In From MIDI Yoke: 1 as input
8. Use the MIDI learn function of the application to map controls from TouchOSC to controls in the application

BTW this is mainly needed to be done on a PC.
Its a lot easier on a mac.

LOL my bad go to this site for more info.

Screw proprietary closed systems and trying to force developers into selling though a single authorized store.
I'd be looking for something based on a bit more open and flexible platform than an iPad, and with more than a single proprietary connector. For example MSI's or Lenovo's upcoming pads.

Or one could just get a multi-touch screen and hook up to an existing laptop running Windows 7 running something like Usine alongside Ableton.

@ ohshit: Launchpad is a n00b toy... nothing personal but it is.

@ Disco Hooligans: Bluetooth will allow for a connection to your computer. There are also programs such as MIDIYoke and others that allow for things you do on the external device to be translated to MIDI signals to be interpreted by various DAW's. To get what you need for that costs around $20 - $30 USD at most (mainly for the Bluetooth chip).
