Calling furry "a fetish" is a simplifcation.
It's different things for different people.
First of all, most furries do not wear fursuits. At this particular con, there were 2500 registered attendees and less than 300 individual fursuits (and on top of that, many people who have suits own more than one).
Second of all, there is nothing that you can say all furries share.
Some furries are into totems/spirit animals/that kind of shit, most aren't (I'm not... yet, anyway).
Some like to think that they were an animal in the past life or have the soul of an animal trapped in a human body. Most don't (I don't)
A lot of people just like furry art. A large subset of those people like pornographic furry art, so that's probably the biggest thing you'd find in common (the dealer's room is usually by far the largest space at the convention). If you're brave you can find that here: http://e621.net/ (warning: some furry art is very good, but most of it sucks. Kind of like psytrance!)
As for people who wear suits, you'd probably be surprised to find that most of them don't fuck in them. It's really just something they do because it's fun and kind of lets you let loose in a way that you might feel embarrassed to when you're not wearing a big cute animal costume.

yes there is a zippered opening large enough for two people to get into one suit and zip it up like normal  you can always tell the suits that have twin hosts because it looks like a cartoon character with broken legs trying to get help because there is a large parasite speeding around under its skin... but inside its all barry white n candles n stuff.
