I couldn't handle a room full o furries.

I am a furry phobe I reckon. not the *people*, just the costumes. I have a fear of people in mascot style costumes. if you can't see their real face I tense up and panic. ever since I was little. can't go to sporting events, have to avoid the mall around easter.

I know its weird.
I guess that makes the sexual part of it even more terrifying for me

a-ha! but you see, this is the qualifier! i am in complete agreement with you here, whatever people do in the privacy of their own homes behind closed doors is of no interest to me in the least.. and frankly, none of my business.
however.. conventions aren't exactly private affairs, are they? furries post all kinds of pictures, videos, and write stuff all over the web for anyone with an internet connection to see. if someone wants to make content available to the public that some might see as a bit provocative, more power to them; at the same time though, the individual should also realize that by doing so they are opening up the floor for critique of their content.. and there will most certainly always be a range of opinion.
..and just to avoid any further confusion, i don't think anybody is trying to fursecute or accuse anyone else on here of being a furvert. it's all just incredibly entertaining, and the yiff stuff is absurdly funny to me. i have seen that which cannot be unseen..

I keep all of MY perverted stuff private, thank you, so don't make fun of me because of stuff that OTHER people have made public

Replace 'Furries' with 'psytrancers' and 'conventions' with 'parties and festivals' and see how it reads

I think it's a given that just as we laugh at others (for example furries, who are obviously - like us psytrancers - a homogenous group with no individuality and therefore we can treat them all the same ), others laugh at us (have you seen how psytrance is discussed on forums specialising in other forms of dance music?). With this in mind, and since we're all so highly evolved that being ridiculed never elicits anything other than gratitude, we can see that if everyone spent all their time poking fun at everyone else no-one would ever get anything done, so how about we all just let other people get on with their thing?

There's nowt as strange as folk, as they say over here, and there's certainly no folk as strange as psytrancers.

I always heard that as "...queer as folk", which I figure is how the TV series got its name.

nobody on here is saying that you're into any of that, and if you think i'm implying that then i apologize.. that's not at all my intention. if the things that have been brought up don't apply, then there is nothing to take personally.
not everybody is as casual about their lifestyle as you may be.. i can promise you that there are people out there that take it to a whole different level, and that is what is any commentary is directed towards. nobody here is trying to cause harm to anyone else on here, nobody is getting trolled, no sock puppets showing up to to start a flame war. srsly, if a comic that features an anthropomorphic kilt-wearing unicorn that loves shitting into a diaper isn't the slightest bit absurd, then what is?

absolutely. i know that psytrancers can and have been the butt-end of many a joke and disparaging comment on an EDM message board, and i am completely fine with it as i'm really not all that concerned about approval from people that aren't into it. frankly, as much as i might disagree with some of the more pointed remarks, sometimes there is some truth buried inside of the criticism. psytrancers are not immune to contradictions, nor is anyone else for that matter. hell, i've read PLENTY of comments by people touting the superiority of psytrance to any other form of electronic music, unwittingly becoming hypocrites when they later say that other people aren't open minded about trance. sometimes you've got to be able to take a step back and laugh at yourself, life is too short for us to take ourselves too seriously all of the time. DERP.
on the other side of the coin though, i am pretty comfortable with psytrance being the red-headed stepchild of dance music. part of the allure of psytrance (for me at least), was (and still is) that it's not exactly the most accessible stuff out there. geographical differences notwithstanding, i've yet to see or hear any tv commercials with psytrance playing in the background.. and i hope that i never do, because that means the squares are in on it and we're all doomed. DOOMED, I TELL YOU, DOOMED!!!

KEEP PSYTRANCE MARGINAL.

Honestly though, making fun of someone for their sexual weirdnesses is really pretty low.

If it was a choice, wouldn't they choose to be "normal", don't you think? It would make one's pool of possible partners much better...

It also doesn't help someone who's probably already pretty troubled to have to keep their kinks a secret for fear of unregulated public ridicule.

don't worry. most people's kinks and sexual habits on the whole are secret. kinks are typically secretive things. not for fear of ridicule but just because that's not something people really have out in the open!

unless you're at kink related parties or on kink related message boards and suchens.

Tizzy's "pink drink" comment made me go and see if I could find what she was talking about in some corner of the net.

Bingo:

Oh and careful with the red-headed comments, Sage....
