Foam is not the best. You can make your own using rock wool or equivalent.
If your interested. Start a new thread and I will post up some info and loads of links and stuff. |

i got a set of those, so 4 basscorner traps and 4 wide absorbers..actualy mine are a little thicker..like 10cm..they are really got, well the material sucks and looks awful, but it makes a good job on absorbing and i covered ithem with some fabric..

If you're using mineral wool or fiberglass, I think you can order supplies from here:
http://www.acoustimac.com/
Everything you need to make them, and as low as $65 a peice..

I find this sound absorption stuff insanely expensive!
Just how on earth do people dare to ask hundreds of Euros for a few pieces of foam plastic!?
Btw, is there any audio interface with converters of the same quality like RME-400, but without all the inputs? |

my 2 cents: if possible to make a perfect acoustical treatment you can do. but you need the ears of a pro. if not, just use egg cartons in corners and thick draperys on walls.
very unprofessional i know, but if you know the difference between your room and many other places exactly, you can produce an almost perfect mix without any acoustical treatment. my advice is to compare pro tracks with your stuff on some different spots in your room. know for each spot his own artifacts. some great mastering ingeneers would tell you the same, others the complete opposite. so i dunno but it's my opinion...
about the rme i don't know. but why care about inputs, maybe you need them sometime. or do you ask for a cheaper interface with same quality? |

Yes, if there's anything like it.
I was considering a Focusrite Saffire interface, but I don't think it compares to RME, does it!? |

Well don't they (RME) have anything smaller with less inputs, but the same converters like on the Fireface 400/800?
I'm seeing lots and lots of products here at their website, but it kind of confuses me.

Please don't waste time collecting egg cartons..they have such a low absorption coefficient and only at really high frequencies.
I don't see how <$200 on some mineral wool, wood and thin cloth to treat an entire room is expensive..there isn't really any (decent) studio component that will cost less.
I agree that most commercial products aren't worth the price and aren't even that good, but a basic understanding of room treatment isn't too complicated.

I'm getting the new RME AIO, so it might be a good solution for you too.
