Hello, I've already ordered a fireface 400, but I've read that the Apogee Duet sounds just as good, but just doesn't have any many channels. I'm pretty much going to be only using the interface for mixing purposes as I don't really record instruments. What do you guys think?

Also, I forgot to mention. I really want to get a nice analog eq and compressor, but If I get the apogee duet my friend said I won't have enough channels to use the hardware...

I think you answered your own question there.

Id go for the duet for the converter quality, and the RME for the amount of I/O           http://www.myspace.com/fragletrollet

Yeah... I kinda realized that afterwards It kinda sucks though, because the fireface is quite pricy, and I know the converters on the Duet are very good. But I also know I want additional hardware, and I clearly can't have both the duet and other hardware. So I guess I'm sticking with the Fireface 400....

Yes, the amount of I/O is one of the reasons I ordered it for sure...

I think the RME will be a good choice. The quality should be plenty good enough for most things.

Room acoustics and the monitors will have more effect on what you can hear than the converters.

I got the fireface as well..its really best choice imo..very stable drivers and big sound..

i think nobody would hear the difference with the duet in A/B comparison.           -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.-

So I got my fireface 400 today I'm happy with its sound. I also got some Primeacoustics "Recoil Stabilizers" for underneath my monitors (BM5A's). It def tightens the bass up nicely. As for the fireface, its def high quality sound, much better than the presonus firebox I had before it.

Sounds like a nice little set up. Have you got any room treatment?

Unfortunately not yet, but I plan on it very soon. I think I'm going to invest in the $700 Primeacoustics london room package. All there stuff is pretty good

i got a set of those, so 4 basscorner traps and 4 wide absorbers..actualy mine are a little thicker..like 10cm..they are really got, well the material sucks and looks awful, but it makes a good job on absorbing and i covered ithem with some fabric..
