Hey peeps, my problem is, i can't get around ablenton - chemistry between us is wrong.
I recently have started thinking about looping experience in Reason. My idea is chopping my tracks in loops and having 5 main tracks in a set Atmos, Drums, Bass, Leads, Other.
I'd create a separate combinator in reason for each of a tune with dedicated octorexes holding loops for each A, D, B, L and O, and mabe a kong for extras and live fiddling.
I'm thinking that the structure of the combi patches for each tune could be identical, they would just hold different loops and samples.
I'm thinking about controlling such patches with a controller. APC 20 would be ideal for it, but i can't find anything About custom midi mapping. Do you think such aproach will be possible with APC? Is midi mapping easily customised?
Thanks in advance.

Well, the whole dynamic mapping of the APC is done on the software side, so an APC is just like any other MIDI controller: each button/slider/knob sends MIDI events on pre-determined CHs and CCs.
So, you'll have to map everything to your Reason project for it to work, and you'll not have the dynamic controls mapped out without any programming.
However, if Reason supplies you with dynamic mapping features, or if you use some third party MIDI proxy (like boom's MIDI or something similar), you might be able to achieve a seamless integration between your APC and Reason - like being able to control the selected device, or use the buttons to scroll through your loops with the APC button matrix.
If you're making this from scratch, It might take a lot of work, but if you succeed you'll have the device mapped in your own way

Thanks for reply, mate,
AFAIK and read in the manual custom "dynamic mapping" is not possible in reason except for companies developing stuff. ok this idea is getting out of hand.
If original midi map of APC is anything like this then this device is hardly configured for one such combi patch even with remote override messages. but i'd like to be able to switch between several combi, so it's even more impossible.
Gotta check booms midi stuff though.
do you think it would be easier to achieve this with launchpad and it's automap software? it seems it could

Well, I'm not aware of the launch pat automap capabilities and it's compatible with reason, but if it says it can do it than it should work -> definitely easier than building your own mapping patch.
Nevertheless it should be possible to implement your own mapping patch and get everything working, but it can be really complicated.
However, for the live situation for me I think an APC can be more useful than a launchpad, simply due to the volume faders. Not that you can't get those with additional equipment, but it requires just that: additional equipment. However the launchpad fits in a bag easier than an APC.
But that's for my way of doing things, you might have it differently.

I see ya, but if launchpad does the job without weeks of fiddling miding, then lounchpad mini+korg micro control ends up being easier and ~100$ cheaper solution. Gotta get my hands on somebodys launchpad then
oh the headache..
