You can completely remove the nag.... how? With same tool (like "actual window manager") you can automatically make the nag window completely transparent.... and automatically "ghost" so you can click through... now the nag is "removed".... simple.... that's a legal crack

its not like the nag is actually doing anything but guilt tripping

Somehow Live has never struck me as a program even intended to be used for writing and producing so much as, well, live purposes, but thats me, I prefer Renoise for writing, can't beat the keyboard shortcuts for EVERYTHING, but its MIDI functionality isn't quite DAW Standard, which is where Reaper comes in           .

Ableton is completely capable of writing professional level tracks. I've used it for the past 2 years and I have greatly enjoyed my experience and learned a lot - it's a fantastic tool and you should definitely learn it - almost all the techniques that you apply in arrangement view can be translated into session view for performance. It's by far the best live performance tool out there in my opinion.

However, I think that reaper is quicker and has some options that Ableton doesn't that will allow me to streamline my workflow while improving the complexity of some of my techniques. I'm very happy that I learned Ableton first and I still suggest people to start with Ableton if they ask my advice.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Oh of course I didnt mean that i disagree with using it for producing

I just have used tracker-style interfaces for too long, the workflow is part of my DNA by now.

I use one DAW as far as Im concerned, it just consists of 3 different programs, each with their specific strong points and usefulness. But 95% of my work is done in Renoise, once everything is clean enough I output stems and load them into Reaper, where they're split into individual mono channels (usually), arranged, sidechained if necessary (Renoise doesn't really do internal MIDI, so no true sidechaining is possible), rendered in 64bit FP if I want, then perhaps loaded into Live for use in a dj set.

Live is a good 'common ground' that shares similarities with lots of other programs, so its both a good starting point and a good universal environment for collaborating with ppl like me who use obscure weird DAWs, also its a great way to learn the nuances of General MIDI, nothing else Ive tried makes it that easy to go nuts with routing (but I haven't dug too far into Reaper yet)

I've tried most DAWs and Ive gone with what works for me. It might seem like an awkward setup but I assure you, its not Renoise makes writing superquick, and Reaper makes mixdowns superquick, and Live makes MIDI superquick. If theres a single program that can offer the spectrum provided by these 3, Im very interested to know what it is

Just for fun earlier I loaded all my x64 plugs into a single Reaper project, and again my jaw dropped, they load so much faster than x86 plugs, bam and youre in. I want to see about Rewiring Reaper full of x64 synths to Live...           .

@willsandquill: have you checked out Reaper '4' Explained? Until 4.x came out I was still on the sidelines, but now I'm going to buy into Reaper after watching just one demo video.

It's just so insanely fast. o_O
