Hi, I need to know how is this soundcard please...and as soon as possible. I have to decide soon.. I'm building my first DAW, so I don't need any fancy yet.
and if it's an audio interface or just a soundcard? I mean, do I need a mixer to connect it to? or I can use it by itself?
Thanks in advance |

i used it for a while
it is fine.
it has a nice internal routing setup where you can have the output sent to the input (good for recording on the fly in cubase). this way you can real time record what comes out of cubase within cubase. it is a great feature. it only has the one rca output and one spidf output. this means that if u wanna dj with it u have to be able to convert the digital signal from spidf. that was always a pain at shows... for the money it is a great card though never had a problem with the latencies or conversions |

I still use my Audiophile 24/96 (bought it three years ago) since my funds are limited, being a student and all, so I decided to invest the little I have to spare into other things such as new synthesizers etc. Although I am very happy with mine as I found the card to be very stable with OK latency, I am looking for a new one now since I need a few more ins/outs.
Audiophile 24/96 is a good and cheap card (it costs about €50 second hand here and about €100 for a new unit), and for such money I suppose it should fit the needs of beginners as well as the needs of those who do not need multiple ins/outs and super-low latency.

The bottom line is, it does the job. Obviously if you can afford better, then get better. But you will probably have to spend a fair bit more to get the edge in terms of performance. I've had mine for two years using logic and ableton and it's been perfect. However I just switched to sonar and there may be a few issues there, but that could be just that I havent got it all set up properly yet.
Best value soundcard is what I'd say. |
