Anyone using 100% hardware?

Hi all.

I feel I might be in a minority here, but I only use hardware to make my music (synths -> analog audio mixer + midi mixer -> hardware sequencer).

I hope to have a finished psy-track at some point I could show you, for now I'm still working at it.

I notice I might be in a minority when I hear producers talk about isolating frequencies, installing a side-chain plug-in and drawing effect-automations.

Anyone else use exclusively hardware or has everyone gone, at least in part, to the soft side?

I think in time it might be clever for me to start learning how to use software at least for the mastering/EQ final stages.

yeah why not use both? Unless you have the cash for hardware eqs delays compressors ... I would by a house instead.           http://soundcloud.com/magimix-1/chilling-forest-whispers

moved from 100% hardware to 100% softwares and now i m coming back to use both.
using best of both worlds is the way to go imo.
softwares give you access to some new possiblities and make the process of producing easier. (not always true , some are a lot more productive with a hardware set up )

not using softwares today? you miss a lot of cool stuff

Hardware is software, these days. It's just software in a very specially made computer/interface, unless you're talking about really old analog synths.

Anyway, I find the distinction pretty meaningless. Sound is sound.

Where do you live? Where I live a house costs about 500 times as much as a hardware compressor.

Not true, there are new analog synths, drumbox and fx.

Dedicated cpu power + hardware components is superior than software.

No meaningless... sound is what it is because where it comes from. Quality sources, quality sounds.

Best of both worlds is the answer.
No point in turning your backs to computers, this is 2011.

I'm definitely more productive with hardware, but yeah...I agree I am missing out on some modern techniques.

have tracks where there is 90% of hardware, but they still are sequenced in software.

I don't quite know what you mean. One track I'm working on doesn't use analog synths, it uses digital synths/sound modules:

The distinction isn't meaningless at all, the distinction is mostly about the method. I'm not happy with the method of using a computer for music, but I feel I'm missing out on easier and possibly more effective mastering/compression techniques.

I'm also interested if any producers are also using 100% hardware, or if any are using hardware to produce, then software to master.

I think most pro producers nowadays use hardware for the sounds and EQ, and software to sequence, sample and master.

Using a hardware sequencer and a hardware audio recorder would be a nightmare to make trance tunes on, the trance tunes that are busy in the arrangement anyway.

Identifying and using either for its pros, is part of an engineer's, skill.

Peace out.

Yeah...I love darkpsy, especially the russian and scandinavian stuff, i reckon that is a lot of software sequencing.
