No mate i don't have a lot of money, in fact it will be very hard for me to buy all this stuff

Sounds like me. I just remortgaged my soul because I'm such an addict. I bought my new speakers just at the right time, one of my current ones just fell off its stand and the woofer is bust
New ones arrive on monday

The point of the DAC is that your soundcard can be fairly cheap as long as it has digital out, then the DAC just converts to analogue. But I think we're getting confused.

If you JUST want XLR output straight from soundcard to monitor, then buy a soundcard that has XLR outputs.
I just mentioned the DAC because it's a way of getting better quality conversion.

Mate if i give 4000 euros for good monitors of course i want to get the best quality! ehehe i just didn't ever hear about "dac's" until 1 month ago still got stuf to learn

So what kind of soundcard should i get for my laptop? same quality as the dac & for example the klein 300 monitors

ahh great! enjoy the new monitor

thanks!

Quality of soundcard is irrelevant if its just passing the digital through to the DAC for conversion.

Just get a soundcard with as many inputs/outputs as you require for recording work. Any half decent studio card will offer low latency, so it's up to you what features you need.

Apogee Rosetta 200 2-Ch AD/DA Converter, 192kHz = 2000€

Adam Audio S1A = 2x 1000€

= 4000€

now get the cheapest digital soundcard you can find and you have the best quality possible for 4000€

ps: it's funny talking about gear like this when mine is this: http://www.typhoon.de/de/art.php?p=682 (no joke)          Pyrex :: Traveling without moving

Does it have better quality than the DAC1? If it does then i'll get it and better monitors

That dac is also converts A -> D, do I need that? for what?

Thanks

Maybe it's necessary and fun to have such really expensive and exotic gear if you're planning to do mastering and depend on it for your living, but there is something called the law of reduced added value. From a certain point, you spend progressively more money for progresively less gain. At least that's what i try tell the gear-habit devil that's talking into my right ear

I believe that hearing differences between different dacs is possible in a good listening enviroment with the proper speakers.

maybe a forum member has experience with dac1 and Apogee Rosetta 200 - could help tell if it's worth it

A DAC1 report..

http://forum.isratrance.com/beginning-of-a-new-era-klein-hummel-o300-benchmark-dac-1/

There are plenty of reports on the Benchmark website about how good it is (as you'd expect)

It's definitely my next purchase, after that I can't see myself buying anything, I'm truly happy with my setup.

A > D conversion is just the opposite of A >D
Its for recording analouge gear (guitars/vocals..) and putting them into your DAW.

I did already read that thread

I just don't like giving away the same money for some monitors that came out over 1 year ago

But even if you buy the latest monitors it'll be a long time before they get established in studios and people start really mixing on them and giving adequate reviews. The O300Ds are known to be good because a lot of people own and use them now, but the only reference a new buyer had when they were new was listening to them in a shop (not always an accurate picture) or a magazine review - which I would never trust by itself if I was going to drop that much money on a purchase.

Anyway, refer back to my previous post regarding newer not always being better.

So i see the dac1 for laptops connects with USB, so the dac works as a soundcard??? I select the DAC1 in my sequencer options?

Thanks!
