Hi guys,A few questions if u dont mind.
Im learnig that reverb is one of the most important things in a song, cuz it goes everywere, a little on the snare and hats, some in my leads and pads, etc...It makes all stick toghether in one. So how you guys do it.??? Do u put the reverb in a send channel, and give all the sounds a little of that same reverb.?
Or do u put your reverb as an isert? and affect individual channels?Do you bounce your noises or leads with the reverb??? or do u put the reverb apart so u can control it until the end? haha, Im sorry if it is confusing to anybody my english is kind of rusty. What Im basicly asking is for any tips on the proper use of a plug in reverb.(by the way im usig cuebase)
Thanks in advance!!! |

I put about 5-6 different reverb plugs in 5-6 busses and then use the sends. Saves up on CPU that way.
What I do is put tight ones with different early reflection algos (I generally like tight reverbs on things) from buss 1-3 then busses 4 and 5 have the medium space reverbs that are a bit more apparent in the sounds they are used on and then buss 6 and maybe 7 if I need a couple, have the exotic reverbs, with the long tail and weird resonances. Them busses (and meybe one of the medium/longish reverb busses) have a compressor sidechained to the kick, cause I love the whole vaccuum effect on long reverb tails that sidechain produces.
One thing to bear in mind when apllying reverb (and delay), is to use a bit less than what you think is enough. The mastering process in the end will bring the overall wet level, up a bit.

Reverb is indeed a great thing to glue things together. I often (nearly always) plug two or three different reverbs (different presets i mean, the plug-in can be the same) and route nearly all leads, pads and drums into them. Even tiny amount of reverb can do a lot for making a track more unbroken.

Reverb can make sound very full but reverb on all your sound will make the song very distant.
keep some dry sound, or use subtle reverb.

A few words about sends vs inserts for reverb:
The only advantage of plugging a reverb as send is additional flexibility: you can procsess the reverb signal separately. Also, this is good for using one reverb for several tracks. Adjust wet/dry control of the plugin to 100% wet in such case.
For using reverb on single tracks there is nothing bad if you use the reverb as usulal insert effect, if you reverb plugin has wetdry control (they all have it).

big tip.
when u are doing a very melodic part in the song, for example a biig PAD, and or PIANOS with mabey Dramatic background drums, u might wanna use more than usual reverb in those areas, to give more dramatic and powerful fx..
when u are doing a buildup, or uplifters in the song, tend to use less reverb because in a buildup there usually are alot of stacked kicks and cymbals (Crashes) and when u stack all those together with alot of reverb, its gonna sound kinda bad.
Same Basic knowledge of REVERB goes to the same principals of DELAY fx
Hope this Helps!
