Can you give me some tip good tips for using Waldorf Microwave Xt, cause I've got it for one and a half month and I can't make any good leads with it. With Nord Lead I can come up with good Lead within minutes. The only good I can get from XT is some weird sounds and some nice pads. Also any plug ins you found that go well with it so that it won't sound so digital? |

hmm.,, as i remember the microwave is quite capable of screaming leads,.
but dont expect clean sounds from it, as you figured out already
-as far as leads go, try amp envelopes with fast attack&release,
-dont use envelopes too much on the wave-tables, you will hear steps in the oscs if you dont filter it a lot.,
-use the distortion (if that model has it, not sure)
-use some of the weird filter modes (like low+band if that version has it)
-fm sounds like sheit (imho)
-detune the oscs to fatten up the sound.,
-set up your controllers in an interesting way., lots of stuff through velocity and such.,
-EQ carefully, the sounds are in there somewhere
-remember that this synth has been around for some time now so a lot of it's easy-to-make sounds have been overused and can sound a bit cheesy these days., so tweak a LOT
greets.,

XT can make some analog lead emulations, but its power is really in another field: weird/atmospheric pads and textures drones.
I think it is perfect to create sounds to psytrance (e.g. Astral Projection/Infected Mushroom) and formant voices such as those used by Astrix etc.

XT is recognized by its digital sound, so you either love it or hate it. The Microwave I has analog filter, but it is more limited than the XT version. Wave version is extremely expensive and rare (it allows resynthesis).
Some plug-ins:
PSP VintageWarmer
QuadFrohm
OhmBoyz

Clean is the essence of the MWxt!! I never make dirt with it - a good thing for leads is the "chorused" and "transient" wavetables... And in the trigger section, set the mode to dual, and de-pan a lot (with reason though).... Nice! |
