Any tip to ad (and make) FX in a track?

I have serious problem with FX. IMO is one of the most difficult production pieces.

It seems there is not many people in the same situation - I rarely find something about FX around here.

Anyway, I usually ad FX when the track is almost ready. Do you do the same? To make my FX I use to play some synth with fx preset and then change it volume afterward. Any tip to help me on this job?           ...Groove´n´dooR...

ADSR, get the volume of the FX to come in and out that grooves with the track.

Then try bouncing the sound to audio and pitching it up or down an octave.

Also, turn the resonance up and the volume down

check out what makes these presets you use tick. reverse engineer them, build new patches with the knowledge you've gained and you will master it. just give it some time.

I make my fx while composing. sometimes earlier, sometimes later in the process. if I'm getting bored of other processes it's fun experimenting with fx. good way is to have your host opened all the time. for example while listening to different music and chilling it's ideal for generating presets for your vsts.           soundcloud.com/epsylohm

Time stretch, bend, twist, swirl , twearl, reverse, eq, reverb, filter, chorus, gate, chop. Thats how I make the fx....
Play with the sound and try to shape it how you want it to!

ya I just chop reverse stretch pitch stereo delay reverb distort automate. just take whatever it is you are workin with and experiment. add some likely effects (delay, reverb) then ad some unlikely ones and tweak the hell out of the parameters eventually youll find ones that work good in different scenarios and remember what sounded good last time. but I also stress that you dont always try to make the sound you are working with "better" sometimes just try your best to completely screw the sound up with various effects and often times you will come out with a totally unique sound that nobody has ever heard. If you are trying to sound like artists that have already been recognized sure just find good simple effects and use them strategically but the experimentation is whats gonna make you stand out. Take an audio file that really has no place in a trance song like a tv commercial jingle or something and chop it and effect it till it doesnt sound like a jingle anymore and you have now made a sound with a waveform that no synth could ever produce.

hows that for secrets. nonsense. who woulda thought nonsense was psychedelic.

If you don't stretch it to fit the tempo, then chop it with a gate, and it will automatically fit the tempo.

Pile on the effects, but sync everything you can, synced things will automatically sound good rithm-wise.

Sample everything that sounds interesting.

Pitching an octave (or 2) up or down is always a very good idea

Don't exagerate!! Cut out the stuff that doesn't really work with the track, keep the stuff that really does something (i really can't explain it better then that). Unless exageration is what you are looking for (derango style). But even derango cuts the things that don't really add anything to the track, and actually clutter it instead of enhancing it.

Please, please don't use pitchbend in the standard psy way too much. I think I've had enough of it for a few years.

But to answer your question, I like to make them last when the most important parts are finished (melody, harmony, kick & bass and overall structure), but if I get stuck for a long time I may start making effects to get away from the frustration and feel I'm progressing. On the other hand if effects play are major role in a track, I may make them earlier.

Granular synthesis rocks for effects BTW, easy to get fun results fast.           When rain dries, clouds form.

You got to try it yourself to understand it.

Experimentation is the secret here! I came up with great sounds effects through the serendipity! Tweak, tweak and tweak! Don't give up!

Some ideas...

1. GRM TOOls packs:
1.1 Classic: Comb Filters, Shuffling, Band Pass and PitchAccum (harmonisation and re-injectable delays).
From SOS: "...PitchAccum consists of two 'transposers', each of which can transpose up or down by a maximum of two octaves, delay by up to 2972 milliseconds and mix their output into the basic signal with a gain fader..."
More details at http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may00/articles/plugin.htm
1.2. Spectral Transform

2. IK Multimedia Amplitube
More details at
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/Oct02/articles/amplitube.asp

Experiment to pass some drumloops (or kick, snare etc. elements) through the amp/distortion models on Amplitube. Sometimes can be interesting to filter the bottom-end, if the sound won't be used alone on track (i.e. at the same time with kick etc.): HPF @ 110/210 Hz using Antares Filter.
The sounds generated through the Amplitube are very crush, rude, very interesting for any sound. Not only guitars and bass (AMAZING hehehe), try any sound.

3. Camel Audio CamelSpace and CamelPhat
More at
http://www.soundonsound.com/news&NewsID=7641
http://www.keyboardmag.com/story.asp?storyCode=8652

These plug-ins are amazing for MUTATION (?) on any sound. Mainly CamelSpace!

4. Native Instruments GUITAR RIG 2
More details at
http://remixmag.com/transmissions/ni-gr2-102005/index.html
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/sep04/articles/niguitar.htm (version 1)

Guitar/bass Amps, Treble Booster (distortion effect), Psychedelay (reverse delay with detune), Pitch Pedal (polyphonic pitch-shifter), Tremolo, Stoned Phaser, Chorus/Flanger, Ensemble, Rotary Speaker and much much more... WOW!

5. Some Plug-ins for dynamics:
5.1 Elemental Audio Neodynium (Compressor)
5.2 Elemental Audio Finalis (Limiter)
More details at
http://remixmag.com/mag/remix_elemental_audio_systems/index.html

5.3 TC Works Limiter (its "dirty maximising" preset really makes anything dirty, rude, loud and live)

5.4 BBE Sonic Maximizer
More details at
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/Mar03/articles/plugin0303.asp

6. Absynth 3
It's able to load a sample on OSC section and so you can tweak a lot on it. The granular sample feature is great (granular synthesis).

What do I do now?
Start your host sequencer and load these plug-ins (or others - if similar in function or idea), something like that:
1. Amplitube (tweak here...)
2. Guitar Rig 2 (load some racks and tweak here...)
3. GRM PitchAccum
4. Neodynium
4. CamelSpace (tweak here...)
5. TC Limiter
6. Antares Filter

Record some MIDI notes and record some great noises! After that, resample your results (again and again) or use Celemony Melodyne for Pitch & Time Correction if required (or another similar tool)
(more details at http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jan04/articles/melodyne2.htm)

Just some ideas...

bounce any part (fx or leads for example), cut the audio to sync it with the beat and reverse it

move the part around if it's not properly timed. add a plate reverb on the reversed material. after having a nice swoosh at the end of the reversed material reverse it again and move the start point to sync it with the audio.

this is pretty nice for reversed crash samples, as you'll have a swoosh in the same frequency as the sound itself. do it with vocals and you get this overused hollywood horror movie effect

Try this two synths:

http://home.tiscali.de/eybfiles/EYB%20FMSpiralator%20v1.6.rar

http://home.tiscali.de/eybfiles/Noized_SineX_v1.0.rar

If u use fruity try the preset hybridize and randomize functions

And of course add some spacey fx            Signature
