Hi, i'm new here and i've heard elsewhere that this is the place to go for all things psytrance.
Anyways, I've always been a musician of sorts (and an artist). since when i was young playing around with a Casio SK-1.
Live has been giving me some really annoying shit lately, quitting after 5 minutes every-time I try to use it, not knowing what the issue is. I made a few nice tracks with it and decided to put it away for a while and try some new things.
That's when I looked to Reason, it's instrument devices are killer in terms of versatility and sound quality. My Edirol PCR500 hooks up to it instantly and works perfectly.
so at the moment i'm working on a track of sorts.
you can listen to my tunes at
if anyone has tips on using reason or so, let me know.
i'm still learning and growing into this. I come from being an guitar player, playing in metal/punk bands in the past and I've always loved electronic music. Psytrance being the best thing ever to happen.
I noticed some distortion at parts of "What a Mess..."- I don't know if that's because of Scream 4 and was intentional, or if it was clipping. So tips wise I'd say lower the distortion, even on the open hat there's probably a little too much.
This is some pretty creative shit though - so keep working it man. There's that Pink Floyd Synth at 6:14 haha.
Just keep things from hitting reds, lower some distortion, check levels and distortion levels on the hihats.
I think for your bass, it sounds pretty tight, so you could have some sections with just the kick and bass solo'd, or kick, bass, and 1 lead.

Keep up the music!
thanks man, however all the tracks uploaded were done in ableton. i haven't uploaded any reason made stuff yet. still working on one though. Although yeah, Scream 4 distortion is amazing, it's very robust and while working i had a moment where it had a gabber feel to the psytrance track i'm working on though.
one thing i've noticed is that it's a bit tedious to import midi, when doing this it's always opened as a new track and it's a bit of work to drag to the proper track and delete the leftover from importing.
isn't there a simpler solution? drag and drop would be nice.
btw, thanks for your comments on "what a mess", it's purely a creative endeavor. never intended to be fully fleshed out track.
yeah, pinkfloyd is one my inspiriations for alot of sounds, especially with the vocal samples being phazered and delayed, with repetition.
In Ableton, the given synths that come with the program are alright, though a bit limited. so i mostly use free VSTs found online. for the bass I was using Zebralette, http://www.u-he.com/zebra/index.php?item=screenshots
it's a great synth but has issues of making crackling sounds and his minor distortion for some things.
as for drums, it's mostly made up of samples in a drum set using impulse. modified a bit. but yeah, I always tried to get a really hard/heavy punch with the kick. I like the kind of kick that hits you in the gut. though it fights me by peaking and going red. but i'm done with ableton for now, until I can afford the full version of Live 8. heh, the program doesn't even have good midi mappings for my PCR-500.
Now that i'm working in reason redrum is nice, i've applied screams tube distortion to the kick and it sounds quite heavy. i'm still new to mastering audio, compression, equalizing, etc.
