Not much goes on in Nottingham these days (used to be a lot that went on at the Marcus Garvey in the mid/late 90s) - you're probably best looking in Selactadisc or any of the shops in Hockley for flyers - but Acid Techno is probably the only underground type scene stil going on there - although DIY - a well known House free party crew are from Nottingham.
The nearest things going on are probably in Leicester where a new night caled kamouflage has started, or if you head north to Sheffield you might be interested in the monthly Planet Zogg (http://www.planetzogg.co.uk) which is trance-techno with strong psy influences or Flouroworld -who do one off smaller psy parties. Headcharge is an acid techno night but with a good party crowd. There are also a lot of free parties come summer.
Further away you've got Sunrise & Relativity in Manchester, Kulu in Bradford, the long running Cabbage plus new prog night Gecko in Leeds, and heading south you've got Stereo Chemistry in the midlands and of course Tribe of Frog in Bristol.
You'll find things a lot smaller than London - but also a lot friendlier and easy going!
