and by that i mean, noise, not psytrance. a mixer attached to a bunch of guitar pedals attached to a couple ring modulators attached to contact mics attached to cultery, for instance. i go to a heck of a lot of harsh noise shows. i love the stuff. (it may be why, when people start complaining that darkpsy is just harsh noises, i don't disagree: i *like* layers of crazy noise.)

so my questions are:
a) does anyone else like it? and
b) wouldn't it be interesting/a somewhat good idea to try, for instance, a harsh noise room instead of or in addition to a chill-out room, at a party? just, you know, as something to try? (or would that make you hate everyone involved, and, worse, flame all over isratrance about it?)

Sounds kind of like stomp and I hated stomp. I mean the first 15 min were kind of cool but it's like an hour of people banging on garbage cans. I think I may be the only person to have fallen asleep at Stomp in the East Village in one of the front rows.

On the other hand I know the pranksters set something up at La Honda were they were recording things people said and would have it echo a few times on a delay so other people could trip off of the things you say and you could leave something behind for them. If you could rig something like that up it would be kind of cool maybe at a festival near the vendors or something. But baba we're all in this for the beats.

I am really interested in this idea, I too am a fan of experimental/noise/improvisational music. Where I live there is no psytrance scene really, but a very active noise music scene. I have often thought that they could suit each other very well.

I often feel that noise music performances when done properly can be incredibly psychedelic because of the aural chaos and spontaneity. Many of the noise acts I have seen try to catch the audience and surprise them, the musician holds the audience in a moment of anticipation and curiosity in order to share an experience. It is Interesting to note that very few noise musicians or fans I know of use or are interested in mind altering substances or activities. I personally think the idea of bridging gaps between these distant music genres would be very healthy or incredibly volatile.

The noise acts I follow the most are Merzbow, Masonna, Lighting Bolt, and Fuyuki Yamakawa and Diamonda Galas. Other less Strait Noise Music but still related Groups I like are The Boredoms, Melt Banana, Venetian Snares and Sunn0))), Lustmord.

I hope one day that there will be events that are able to bring these different music sensibilities together.

no i hate noise

it gets in the way of signal

always trying to eliminate the noise and increase the clarity

besides the biologically disturbing effects upon the organism of harsh sounds and noise,
i also believe that noise production by artists means they have nothing to say, sing, or write.

dont like noise.

nothing wrong with a little analog uncertainty to spice up signal generation and recombination processes, of course!

i'm all for clean music -- but let's hear some electrons flying around alongside those accurately rounded bitvalues!

and as for listening to straight noise, a bit of low level red noise could be kind of soothing for some organisms

Music sensibility?

NOISE –noun
1. sound, esp. of a loud, harsh, or confused kind: deafening noises.

MUSIC –noun
1. an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.

Smells like contradiction to me.

Noise is far too cerebral to be appreciated at a psy event. Psytrance and "chillout" music are of a more kinetic nature. Let's call it 'tribal' or 'ritualistic', or something. On the flip side, drone is quite conducive to what people are looking for in a "chillout" area. As a noise artist, it is a welcome challenge to have to inhibit the urge to blow speakers and eardrums, and to instead control the roiling sonic palette at your fingertips in a most delicate manner. For example, I spun a bit of Bastard Noise's "Skull Wave" at a chillout stage. Not only did trancers have no idea what it was, they LOVED it. If you're curious, Dog of Tears, a talented and prolific noise and psy artist, incorporates full on modular noise-fuckery into his trance. Unfortunately I have seen this met with fear and hostility on one occasion (at a rather large party), which is why I tend to vie for that easy to swallow sound that everyone can enjoy (no offense ocelot your tunes are nice).

have to agree with ASOM, i've seen many trancers get pretty hostile when confronted with this experimental art form, but there are others that love it.....i love it personally....depending on the setting/crowd it could make or break your "non-trance" stage....

Bastard Noise is awesome. Also really digging TRibes of Neurot. Any other suggestions along those lines? I have one Zena Geva 7" that's pretty out there.

Merzbow: 1930, Amlux, Venereology (if you can take the pain)
Also try Wolf Eyes, Masonna, John Weisse (member bastard noise), Aube or one of the 700+ i've never heard of http://noise.alphamanbeast.com/artists/?page=all

i luv noise! i remember on the way back from my first exp in goa...following intricate patterns in the sounds of a scooters engine... and forgetting for long spans of time that it was the pumping of the pistons and the cranking of the shafts tht were giving me the audio pleasure... the noise youre talking about shudnt be any different right?
here's some noise u might enjoy:
