I have a stab with a long delay...
I want this delay to move from the front to the back of the audio field.. but to split around the middle so it would look abit like this (from above):

Hope you get what i mean

hmm, heres an idea. not sure if its possible though
put waves doppler on it to get it to move easy from the front to the back. and see if you can automate the channel panning, that might be able to split it into 2 while its moving back.

1: Make sure the delay is in mono.
2: Set up two stereo groups and put Ambisone on both of them. This will be where you do the panning. Label one group AmbiPan L and the other group AmbiPan R. Don't change ANY Ambisone parameters yet.
3: To enable easy level control of the delay, set up another stereo group and route both panning groups to it.
4: Set the delay channel fader to -oo and set up two aux sends on it, sending to both panning groups equally at 0dB. Make sure both sends are set to 'pre-fader'.
5: Set the Distance on both Ambisone plugins to maximum.
6: Now you need to automate the Ambisone plugins. At the point where the stab hits, make sure the Azimuth on both Ambisones is 0; as the delay repeats, the Azimuth on the AmbiPan L channel wants to move from 0 to -180, and the Azimuth on the AmbiPan R channel wants to move from 0 to 180.
That should do it. There could also be variations: you can automate the Elevation parameter for both sides to change the apparent height of the delay above the listener, but I think you'd need to make sure that each Ambisone had exactly the same automation, otherwise you'd just confuse the listener. You could also experiment with automating the Distance parameter before the automation for Azimuth kicks in, which would have the effect of moving the delay towards the listener before the panning started. Also try different settings for Quality and Field - but again, make sure both Ambisone plugins end up with the same settings or the effect probably won't work.
I'd be very interested to hear what you come up with if you follow this. Please contact me with a clip of the sound if you do! I've never tried it, but I reckon it would work.

YEAAAAAAH!
It worked...! did it in a slightly different way though as i was using the synths Delay i bounced into mono, used that faded in as delay each time the stabs hit... bypassed the Delay on the Synth thus:
I have the original stereo sound with an ambisoned delay
aaaaaaah... I love details!!
Thanks SO much Colin for all the help will send you the clip later hehe!

not sure if double delay will work, as the ambisone is specifically designed to mimic 360 degree (plus vertical) audio field...
maaaaaybe if you automated the feedback rate very slightly on one side...making it sliiiightly faster then slower again? as when sounds aren't exactly at the same time they seem further apart...
you won't be able to get the sound behind you though unless you maybe use a reverb
peace

The simplest way :
Use the Ultrafunk Surround FX.
You just "draw" the path and direction of the sound.

Ah, but will this be able to 'split' the sound either side of the listener's head as it moves from front to back?
|
|
Hmm yes if you use 2 stabs , one panned to the left and one to the right.
Then ofcourse you'd have to use 2 of the surroundFX one for each stab looking like "<" and ">" .
Not so simple and inexpensive as it seemed in the begining though hehe.
If I understood Nick correctly it should sound like this :

Colin, I don't understand this point and it would be nice if you could explain that more detailed (I use sx2 btw) Which one is the "delay channel" ? The group created before to control the delay-volume? What do you mean with "aux sends"?
Thank you in advance,
Martyn
