I use this free one http://www.araldfx.com/sg1/
gives me enough control to do the job, you just have to make your own patterns, no useable presets.

also try DVS Neon Gate, and mgTriggerGate

both are free, and are very good - and have presets if you're lazy            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

They work fine, it's just that 64bit Sonar refuses to automate 32bit plugins.

I like simple gate plugins, like the one in ableton. You can sidechain it with another sound, works great!
What exactly is a trance gate? Something different from normal gates like the one in ableton?

Yeah, sidechain a normal gate to a channel of your choice in your track.

it's an automatic gate.

the most precise but most time consuming is to do it manually in ableton.
Yake the volume or mute of a clip and put it on and of or less and more if you will

or try the pocket plugins here:

the gate isn't the most versatile but it's nice.          https://soundcloud.com/craic-addict

I like to use sidechained gate on pad sounds. You can put a synced delay on a sound that goes into gates sidechain input and you get this cool rhythmic choppy sounds.
