Respect is not a right, its something that is earned. That was advice. Guys like Colin and Mubali who are nothing but super cool on here I would never pirate, only buy their stuff because of how cool they are on here. They have put a human "face" to their music from posts on this forum, it would be like pick pocketting someone i know.
If you want to come on here an act like a jackass its all good, i'm a potential buyer though of what your selling. Its not in your interest as far as business is concerned.

While I appreciate the compliment, I would hope that people bought my music because they liked it, not because I come onto Isratrance and post. If music were sold specifically on what type of people the artists were, then there wouldn't be nearly as much music out of any genre...
Why do you release music as an artist? Is it for money or is because you like the music? I do agree that you have to eat and pay for your gear and all that, but when you started buying that gear, was it because you were going to pay it off my making music with it, or was it because you wanted to make music with it? That being said I do agree that there are a lot of labels that take advantage of the fact that monetary issues aren't the focus of artist and attempt capitalize on that. Unfortunately as of late, there's been a lot of US labels that have fit into that category. The thing that many new artists do not do in their quest to release music is speak with the label in question about their musical motives and make their decision based upon the impression that they get from speaking with the label owners and other artists that have released on that label. Of course for labels that have yet to release a compilation that makes things really difficult to judge.
Here's a bit of personal history on my early releases. The first release I had was on Mistress of Evil Records. It was their first compilation. Now, I knew the girls for years before they even started their label, so I knew what they were all about and I was quite honored that they wanted a track from me, especially when I had only been making music a few months when they asked me for a track. There was no advance, and when it was all said and done, the artists got paid about $100 bucks. But for me that was the coolest $100 bucks I made even though I could have made that same amount of money in a days worth of work. ( I still have a Xerox of that first check!) My next releases were on a site called Resonant Earth. That is an online label started by an artist for other artists. They were really fair about payment, stating that 60 cents from every dollar went to the artist, which is true... However in the actual sales for the 3 tracks that I gave him for release, I only got like 20 bucks which in turn I turned around and bought music from Resonant Earth with, however I would get emails from lots of people saying how they loved my tracks and wanted to see more from me. I even got pirated on a Brainforest compilation, which when I first saw it I was upset, but in the end, just served to be good promotion to get me onto other labels that wanted new stuff. That led me to release on labels like Trishula, Manic Dragon, Parvati, etc… I also put a collaboration track on the last Anomalistic Records compilation… Mubodhi is me and Bodhisattva 13:20  Tsabeat, I remember the first release I heard of yours was on a Mistress of Evil compilation. You also were cool enough to send me a cd way back in the day, which I really enjoyed. I've been screwed by some of the same US labels as you, but in the end it doesn't matter. Why? Cause I'm still gonna make music and for me it's more important for the music to come out than to wait till some label gives me a killer deal. But also that statement only holds true for music I create solo. If it’s a collaboration track, I need to be respective of what my partner in the project would like and cater to that. Sure I could just put out my stuff on my site, but then I would only be promoting myself and if my name can help promote other artists that would've been overlooked otherwise, that makes up for it a thousand fold.
The point that I'm getting at is as an artist, you're gonna want to give away some music for free. So you can do it yourself, or you can be promoted and promote another label while you're at it... It's not like you're not going to make more music, and chances are what you make later might be better than what you gave away for free...
I'm a lot more shrewd about going places to play, because I find that to be more of a financial risk personally than releasing music. I've been burned a few times playing in places, and it sucks for sure... However, at that same point, I do play a lot for just travel expenses, mainly in the US because it's not too bad of a flight or drive and the parties don't get a whole bunch of people to warrant charging a shitload of money.
You'll also be surprised at the amount of established labels that do not do advance payments too... Seeing as I didn't ask them if I could divulge that information, it wouldn't be right for me to say which ones, but there's some highly reputed labels that don't do advances, but do pay on time and according to what was agreed upon. In the end, I like a business relationship to have both parties that are involved come out happy. I don't like to screw over a label and I don't like to think a label screwed me either.
Finally, speaking of free stuff... I figured I should put my music where my mouth is. I went through my old music archives and picked out all my old stuff that will never see the light of day. Some of the stuff dates back to December 2003, some of it was done prior to my album being finished. All are in wav format, and they're yours for the taking... here's the link to the rar files... They're broken up into six 100mb rar folders, so make sure you grab them all.

My apologies its just been brought to my attention that ive forgotten to mention that this and all comps on anomalistic will be for a charity (not yet chosen) and if all goes well part of that money will be disbursed to the artists that either donated or gave tracks for cheap. I need to make it clear to everyone that
IM NOT DOING THIS FOR MY OWN FINANCIAL BENEFIT.
thanks

Mubali, once again, I really respect your viewpoint on all of this (and thanks for the tunes!). Interesting subjects have come up in this thread, and I was glad to read it. Good luck Chuk!
