Hi. I use NAV2003 on my DAW and it truely is a very good, regualarly updated piece of anti virus software. But, the thing is, even when I've disabled it, it still seems to be running down in the taskbar. I know it's obviously advantages to have antivirus software constantly monitoring for viral activity but on the DAW you want to be able to have only the bare minimum running sometimes.
So, does anyone know how I can disable NAV completely so it doesn't load up when Win XP starts (It takes ages to load up so I feel like it's hogging my system resources).
OR, what virus software do you use, or do you know of, that is as effective as NAV (with regular updates to the virus definitions) that can be completely disabled and not loaded when windows starts.
It's a sticky situation I guess. I don't want a virus (unless it's the access kind but I don't want a virus scanner hogging memory and cpu cycles. Am I asking too much. Please help!
Thanks,
Joe

Open NAV - go to options.
Untick the first checkboxes.

1. why XP and not 2000 [ it uses memory better, after the SP4 etc.]
2. excuse me, but i don't see what is the need of antivirus on a DAW: since the only connection of DAW to the real world should be externally scanned Media and Audio/MIDI signals [ i haven't heard of MIDI viruses yet].
yes, i mean you don't need internet on a DAW.so u can disable all the networking services running on your box.
if you need networking, u can install a network card and disable it by default [besides, unplug the cable]
when u need to transfer - plug the crossed cable directly to your internet box, simply enable the network card & services and use Network Neighbourhood browsing (NetBIOS)
and after the use u disable it again, stop the network services and unplug the cable.
of course u need 2 computers for this luxury,
[but the internet computer can be very old]
and at least 2 network cards - if u don't connect with one to the net - and if yes, then 3 NICs.
Boom.

And XP after the SP1?
Works great here, I see no reason why not use it.

I never install antivirus on a DAW...
it eats up all the energy I need.
Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

XP is more stable, with better compatability.
