hey all,
so, what DA F*CK is anti-phase, and how to deal with it??
so i'm working on a project now, and have imported a loop sample from one of the Vengeance sample CD's, real high quality sample.
now using the Waves Position, i saw that the anti-phase is going mad, filling all the angles of the anti-phase region...
it sounds awsome, but this anti-phasing stuff gets me nervous... so what does it mean that the anti-phase graph going mad? and if thats not a good sign, how to deal with it?
because using a double balance panner and minimizing the stereo radius wrecks the sound by making it mono! also using a stereo image plug, making beautiful sound mono...
thanx.

Phase relates to diffraction and rarefaction or the sound waves in L and R.
So the left sound wave goes like this at 100Hz
/\/\/\
and the right soundwave goes like this at 100Hz
\/\/\/
This means that when the sound is played in mono (some radios, clubs) 100Hz from L and R will cancel each other.
Now this almost never happen completelly in a sound(100% phase cancelation), but in cycles, giving the known phase sound effect...
This can also happen in mono sounds when adding sounds toguether, during recordings with multiple mics, using fast delays etc...
Sometimes this can be a good thing, sometimes is almost unoticable, but it can be bad if its happening in your bass or kick for eg...thats a reason why is always safer to do these always in mono so you are assured there will be no phasing when going from stereo to mono.
If you have a mixer with mono/stereo btns, you can do some ab testing to check if the phasing is affecting the sound.
Well...hope that was of some help, a lot more to say about phasing hope more ppl contribute

well ofcourse i've tested it mono and stereo, if i make the specific sound mono, the sound itself changes and looses its beauty and becomes something else...
so basicly i could leave the anti-phase to go mad, unless it's on my kick and bass?
but my kick and bass are mono... no phase for them
