Simon Posford offers a whole different experience in his music than The Muses Rapt for instance.

Other than being high quality psytrance, and specifically LSD being one of the most uplifting tracks ever, it is also musically appealing on a lot of levels (chord theory, brilliant melodies, and the ABCs of sound mastery). If you prefer the minimalist or techtrance sides of the music, well, that's one thing, but if you want someone to understand what trance really IS, there's only one real person to give that example. And it's not Ticon :)

well, i think that who's the one you're trying to "convert" is, but i'd go for infected mushroom tracks, like bust a move, or jorg on mushroom - the messenger.
really musical tracks that won't frighten first comers, that'll get them in touch with the musical side of trance before getting in touch with the karahana side of it.

Aztec - Outer Breath
I know this is a very old song, but it was the first song that made me realize the power of trance music
Ever Since i heard this song trance took another dimension in my life!

In my opinion
1. Union Jack - 2 full moons
2. Cat on mushroom - Fly
3. The muses rapt - ...and the sensitives will b kings

(if i would add 1 more, it will b
dandandado - diamond dust)

Good call on 2 Full Moons and A Trout, but I still firmly believe that it really matters who you're trying to "convert" (nice one freakazoid :)), you should go with something he can relate to. Dark Soho, Chakra, Sandman and Tim Schuldt usually work better with people coming from the harder sides of metal (who needs death metal when you can hear some Tim Schuldt with 10 times the power and the same distorted guitars? :)), people that come from 60s music or deeptrance usually go well with Koxbox, Juno Reactor and Hallucinogen, people from clubtrance usually love Spiritual Healing, Spirallianz and Midi Miliz for technoheads....

you get the point.

But if you don't know exactly what the guy likes or what he's looking for in music, Hallucinogen - LSD is still, after all these years, the most appealing to most people, because it works on so many different levels.

I guess that most of these trax are the trax that made great influence over you, but you must remember that you are all trance-heads, and ppl who are not into trance probably wont understand them as you do (playing Dark Soho as first track? are you mad? you wanna give these poor souls bad nightmares?).
I'd go for something that 'ordinary' ppl might relate to, something that they can understand and concieve easily with their limited psychodelic experience: something like Haldolium - One of these days (a known tune in trance form), or maybe something delicate such as Atmos or Cosma (an lighter club-like sound which is closer to what normal ppl know).

remember that you want to be able to reach these ppl minds, so you wanna give them the easiest experience possible. later can come the havier stuff. try to 'ease' them into this -quite hard- music style.

cheers

Astral Projection - Mehadeva got me interested in trance, but Hallucinogen - LSD in 95 is what made trance my favorite musical style.

And while playing trance in the army, the one single track which brought the most people to me with the question "what music is that? it's really good!" was LSD. Not AP, not MFG, not Spiritual Healing, not X-Dream (which I heard in the army as well).

It's a well known and well tested track, and I can honestly say that in my experience, Hallucinogen has the greatest appeal in average.

And Dark Soho to a heavy metal fan is giving him what he likes, only in a different way.
