Hey folks ,living on a tiny Caribbean island ,all gear i can see is all in my studio and on the net .....so have you guys had your ears on those dudes ?
Event Opal .....then from same price range i had the chance to listen to those once and got blown away .....didn t even look at the focal and dynaudio that were sitting next to it in the listening room (a trip to paris )
Pmc db1s AII .
it s really hard for me to choose from those 2 cause never heard the Event but read lots of good critics .....i must say i ve had a compare between the Focal Twins and this Pmc and since then i just think Pmc Pmc Pmc huhuhuhuhuh.....what you guys say ?
did anyone got a try on the Event ?

asking for subjective speaker assessments from random people on the internet, is like dancing about architecture.

seriously, it's such a personal preference. try a few in your price range in your own studio, and buy the ones you like the most.

i'd say anyone prepared to put down a significant amount of money on monitor speakers would be doing themselves an extreme disservice by not trying them out first.

as for me, i roll with ATC.           http://hermetechmastering.com : http://www.discogs.com/artist/Gregg+Janman : http://soundcloud.com/babaluma

Maybe make a little holiday to Miami? And check out the monitors there?

The price difference is quite big between the pmc db1's and the event opal.
How much do you want to spend?

I am using the dynaudio BM6a and really happy with them. But if you spend over 1000 euro I think you ll find you'll always buy something useful, although it might not be your first choice if you have had the chance to listen to them all.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

actually i ve tried the Pmc and was blown away .....in the same room were lying some Dynaudio DBm50 ,Adams and a wide range of focal ....
i liked Adams A8X over Dynaudio DBm50 but never found the Bm6a on test .....
but the 2 way pmc had nothing to jalous the Focal SM9 that are 3 way and double the price .

i don t think the pmc db1's (2565e for a pair here ; http://www.univers-sons.com/audio/pmc-db1s-aii-db1saii.html )
is much more expansive than the Event Opal (1325e each)
actually Event are more expansive ...
tho i still have to decide if i want to spend that much on monitors ......

anyway thks guys will just keep steady on what i already heard .....           soundcloud/roakanan.com

roakanan, sorry for hijacking you thread...

I took a look at the price range of these, and they are too expensive for me (1200 euro++).

I'm thinking about buying the Mackie MR8mk3, or the M-Audio M3 Three-Way 8" or the Alesis M1Active MKII 6.5", mostly for home listening. Much less than 300 euro each.

Couple of questions:

1 - Are they really that much worse than the previous mentioned in this thread?

2 - Between these three, which should I buy? Is there really a difference? Right now I'm thinking about the Mackie MR8mk3 based on guessing. Should I rethink it?

Any input from experienced people is welcome.
Thank you.
Respect!

the m-audio is probably worse,
is it about producing or djing for you? if djing, dont worrie low budget alesis, mackies, adam etc. all cool
for producing? you need bigger budget then 300 in order to be comfortable with your monitoring           http://soundcloud.com/vipal

Thank you for the reply. Please, more advice and opinions are needed.

Another question, what kind of cables or hardware do I need to connect these to my notebook?
Thanks.

Are you using the monitors to produce or djing? I agree with vipal regarding monitors for producing...save the extra $ and go for something better.

I dont like KRK but the price on the VXT6 went down and for sure these are really good monitors...i tried them when i was buying my Adam's and was impressed even if their trademark sound is not my cup of tea.

If you want to strech your budget a bit more then go for Eve...they are really good!!! I traded mine A7X without even thinking. They are tighter than the Adam´s maintaining the brightness from the ribbon tweeter. The Adam A7X are really nice monitors but not at the same level than the Eve (imo).

I'm also curious about the M-Audio M3 but i dont hold very high hopes though i have to say they look great (looks/quality)!

Most monitors have xlr and 6,3mm jack outputs. If you don't want to produce I think something like this will do the job

connect cables from monitors to this and put the 3,5 mm jack to soundcard output

But if you're going to make music I strongly advice you to buy decent usb/firewire soundcard, but it costs extra money

Thank you for all the good feedback.

I will not produce music, this is only for home listening.

One more thing: can anyone please refer me to a reliable website that will ship the monitors to Brazil? Reasonable prices also help.
Thank you!
