i ordered this album as the "wild card" from dakini's site just by their recommendation.
and boy was i positively surprised when i started listening to it. this album was originally relased in 1994 by beyond records
and was re-released in 2004 by anotherfinelabel and it had all the reason to be re-released imo. this is the snuggly kind of chill which just wraps you up in a friendly, pure and (now don't be alarmed, you rough and tough guys) healing blanket.
you and sound. perfect material for day dreaming, for excursions behind closed eye lids or for creating a chilled and positive atmosphere after a days work.
the music shifts between almost beatless ambient and rhythmically driven, moving chill. i would compare this with the likes of dreamfish, early orb and mixmaster morris.
but it's still unique and imo one of the most solid and best flowing chill albums that has been made.
here's an excerpt from pete lawrence's sleeve notes:
"... from the moment the album's publicist called me and was almost apologetic that "life before land" had "real" instruments like mbira and double bass on it, i knew that it would be up my street. what i didn't realize on those first revelatory plays was how important the album would be in terms of setting a more organic ambient agenda that still stands up strongly ten years on, and has transcended fashion in all senses. this was a true definition of 90's world music. deliciously understated music with subtle power to shift mood, create wide open space that coaxed the listener into a more contemplative state of mind, where the imagination could freewheel around the unfolding musical journey. music for a lifetime..."
it's a classic. do yourself a favour and buy it

You will love it as much as the first I bet. It's a bit of a different atmosphere, and a little more varied than the first. This release really measures up to life before land which set a very high mark.
I'd love to hear Tom get together with Charlie Roscoe of Jairamji... their music styles really work great together.
