Hello all,

This is one of my favorite leads: http://filebox.vt.edu/users/amarano/Lead.mp3 . At the moment I forget the name of the artist, but I really like that lead sound.

It sounds like a detuned lead, but there's another quality to it that I can't quite pin down. And none of my detuned saw leads sound like this.

any suggestions?

Thanks!

That artist is Twisted System I believe, and it kinda sounds like they were using a bit of lfo on amplitude or a tremolo to add some of the texture to it. I might see if I can reproduce that sound on my own and let you know what I came up with..           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

I'd greatly appreciate that!

I figured it was modulation of some sorts, or maybe a hefty pre-delay on a reverb... something. I just haven't been able to get something close.

i love these "how do you make this sound" threads. i have been learning so much in the past few months.

lfo on the amplitude or tremolo on a saw? im not getting the right results. maybe im missing something.

would the saws being detuned help?           The IsraTrance MySpace Group:

I'm pretty sure they're detuned, it has that 'warbly' quality to it.

It might be that they're detuned enough to match the speed of the LFO on the amplitude...

Damn, I ought to try that!

Actually I think I know the main reason to why it sounds this way. I got a similar sound before by experimenting with those "squeeky" synths that we make by modulating the pitch. I experimented and got similar results so try this: On already de-tuned saws, using a Mod-matrix preferably, set up an LFO for the saw's OSC. Now, put up the delay for the LFO (in zeta, might be called something diff in other synths), so that the pitch doesnt fly off right away (squeek), it will play normally but then after time it will shift. This is important cause it will sound more lke notes rather than squeeks. Make sure the offset is low so it doesnt shit too much also and try putting the curve on random. I think it will make the pitch of the OSC1 warble ever so slighty out of tune, yet not sound lkie that squeek synth and will be similar to this sample. Try it and tell me if it works. If not, Ill try to post a sample later. Good luck!

yeah sounds to me like a detuned saw with a tremolo or triangle/sine LFO modulating amplitude and a sent to a half note pan delay...but there are other ways to create that sort of fluttering, including pitch modulations...and the mod rate seems to increase accoring to pitch, so dont forget to add some keyfollow

Abomination released their albumn on Nexus.
They`d know.
I`m sure shift gave them enough info.

I`d trust what they have to say.
