this one sounds a little bit narrow minded.....darkpsy is growing thats right BUT also repeating itself since a long time now... same tracks same sounds and same breaks all the time. and poor quality. most of the dark releases are just as boring as any other fullon releases...with a few exceptions......b000m!

the "problem" with dark psy is that it branched to much...there still are awesome releases, cant say that much for fullon althou GFR & WILDTHINGS
@pavel: why dont u just wake up? dont be stuck in time ... id also like that parasense, deviant species, lotus omega, droidlock, spirallianz, brain deflection, logic bomb, botfb, hux-flux, etc. are still active (00-03 period) but if they were active well id guess they would change their sound into something thats in this time period...same happend with etnica, pleiadians, logic bomb, maybe others but i dont know...yet only logic is nice the rest are

The mainstream is bored of house which sounds like midi's so they like full-on/proggy etc.
The underground finds 145bpm in & around too repetitive, structured and out played so they love dark/night music ...........
I personally think both have their own unique appeal. But if i'm in a festival in the most psyched out mood my personal preference would be heavier, more weird electronic sounding, challenging boundaries vibe from night music.
Why more dark albums?
Since most of the people who are religiously follow this genre and buy albums are considered underground. |

IMHO....my theory is.....psy is going to the masses.....its catchin on to kiddos big time.....kiddos equate dark psy with being extreme..for them higher the BPm = more extreme......being extreme = being cool........so kiddos with half baked talent try making their own tunes....and since they have half baked talent....they cover it upp by increasing the BPM count....leading to lotsa shit coming out now.....quantity over quality
for further proof ....find out the age groups of all these young producers....
this is not to discredit some fine dark talent currently out ther and coming up.......
its just that the talent gets drowned and overlooked in the ocean of rubbish dark....

Most non darkpsy acts today, rely on bookings to rake in money due to the awful state of CD sales and piracy. It is more profitable for them to freely spread unreleased tracks to the listening masses so that their music reaches more people --> more bookings/popularity/$$$. Nothing wrong in this in my opinion, just smart business.
On the other hand, non commercial genre's such as darkpsy cater to a smaller audience and the average artist probably has a higher chance of making $$$ through selling tracks to a label (with the absurd number of darkpsy labels these days releasing absurd music) rather than depending on infrequent bookings due to the fewer number of parties playing such music. To the best of my knowledge darkpsy parties aren't very viable business ventures in most parts of the world with exception to Japan, Russia etc and unless they are done at a festival scale.
The other reason being those mentioned in the previous post - paragraph 1. I don't know about the BPM parts but yes people are easily attracted to extreme forms of art and begin to fool themselves into believing they are real musicians when they are actually doing nothing more than screwing around with a bunch of sounds. LOTS of shit coming out. The simple solution IMO is to stick to the trusted labels and explore new labels based on the strength of their lineups. Works just fine for me

+1. I mean, age is not really a factor, but it does get overlooked.... Reasons being, the hurry to just release music, forgetting musicality, feeling etc etc.... and increase the bpm to make it sound "killargh"... when it is actually rubbish. Over the years im hearing supposedly new forms of psy.... like psy-core.... I mean WTF is that? u mean Noise-core??
Secondly, the rise of "evil" .. I see releases with relevance to names like Demons and Satans and wat not shit! First of all, this is not the metal scene, where even people have begun to feel long back that its all superficial and just a gimmick. Night music means dark and dark means evil! WTF!
Really sad, to see labels and artists using such themes to describe their music. Man... Why dont u guys talk to Satan ... and ask him to start a label?? Ur music will reach to all the evil souls out there!!!

Also, the evil concept isn´t new... see Xenomorph - Cassandra´s Nightmare
Logic Bomb released a track on 3d Vision back in the day called Son of Satan....
and music is always in ebb and flow... in 2002, there were more full on releases than you could shake a stick at, in 2000, the minimal sounds ran supreme... I´m sure in a couple of years, there will be a new sound that gets massively piped out for you all to bitch about.

I just think is really a trend as in every trend to call the tracks in the most evil way... after one or two times is not anymore funny, is not anymore a joke, is just annoying....like I have to find out the baddest name... O.o

The world is alot darker, so people are attracted to music that fits the mood.
I also think that a lot of people who are into glitchy and industrial music, maybe ever stuff like breakcore, enjoy the dark psy sounds and so it is starting to sell a bit outside ofthe psy sector.
I know a few of my friends who could nto stand traditional goa/psy or fullon and progressive, because they are fans of much hard electronica, love the darker trance stuff. Especially the high BPM stuff.
And it is not hard to tell a bad dark psy track froma good one. |
